Today it was $1.63 in change that I put intoo my "Change can Change" jar! Yes the name is hokey but I have to do something to not make paying down my debt all drudgery!

At the end of each day I am taking whatever change I have in my wallet, pockets, etc. and putting it into a skinny jar. I am thinking that at the end of the year I will have at least $365! Not a mortgage payment but it would be a student loan payment or a some new clothes or help with Christmas shopping.

Anyone want to join me in the Change can Change 2010 challenge?

Good job!

I do this too, only I do mine at the end of the week. Since I live in Canada we have $1 and $2 coins, so if I did this everyday, I would end up with a good portion of my weekly "allowance" in the change jar, lol. In fact, this morning I realized I forgot to empty it out from last week and I ended up with $6 to put in!

Its amazing how fast it adds up. I did it last

I sorta started the same thing. We have an empty popcorn tin and I am dropping change in it, haven't gotten too far because I am broke right now but I am going to drop any change I find in it. Starting with the change in my car's ashtray.

Yay I am glad that we have a group to do this together - some of you seem to be old pros at it too! Maybe I can learn a thing or two from you all about how to NOT dip back into the change jar!

Hmmmm, to not dip into it . . . how about sealing it up pretty tightly so it would be a pain in the youknowwhat? Mine is sealed pretty tightly so it takes a good 10 minutes or so to get it open (as in it takes effort). This stops me from dipping into it.

Hey that is a great start and a great name!

I have one on my dresser. I used to put money in it all the time. It was a for a vacation (mini get away) for bf and I. We took the vacation and were kinda disappointed we spent so much money on nothing really. I haven't put money in it for a long time! I probably should but I haven't. We have no plans to go away either although we do have an over night wedding to attend in Feb. It will be good to get away for that and won't cost too much (under 200 I am guessing).

Honestly though. I don't spend a lot of cash to get change back. I'm kinda lame. I used my debit card for groceries. I pay bills online. Gas with the debit card. I drink free coffee(not really free but I don't use cash) at my store in the mornings. I'm just not a big cash person.

Ok, now I want to go on a little mini vacation. I guess the over night in Feb will have to do!

I had a bunch of change in an old piggy bank that I would dump change in when I found it during laundry or laying around. It had $7.46 in it but I gave it all to my son today because his class is collecting spare change to send to Haiti. I figure that is more important and helps him learn about helping people in crisis.

I love collecting spare change and letting it build up!! :) My BF has a lot of debt and he also leaves change all over the place. He has a jar for his change and I have a mug where I toss mine too. For several months I watched our change build up and up and up. I could tell it was getting to be a significant amount so I started to roll it and take it to the bank. From spare change alone I have deposited over $100 into a savings account!! Since the change is mostly his, he uses cash way more frequently than I do, I am putting it aside (plus the interest it's earning in savings) for him as a surprise (he doesn't even notice it's gone). In a couple weeks (after one more round of rolling and depositing ... it takes a little while for the change to build up to significant amounts but being patient pays off) I will write him a check for the total amount and he can pay off one of his smaller debts! :)

We throw in all our change into various places & have for years, then when things were tight we'd dig into it lol...now we have so much change that I am going to use it for the kids allowances and whatever extra definitely becomes part of our next week's cash...I'm doing the "cash jar" concept but with envelopes (because I HATE clutter) so cash is becoming a VERY important part of our life.

I know a couple (she was a bar waitress) who threw all their quarters, $1 & $2 coins into jars, and ended up buying themselves a 2 week vacation to the Dominican Republic with it! It's a great idea, and keeps you motivated.
My parents did the same thing when they quit smoking...all the money they would have spent on smokes went into a jar and after a while they used it to go on holidays...seeing the change is a great motivator!
