Wow it sounds like the credit counseling organization is not helping much at all. Do you have a letter of agreement that you signed with them? If so and if it outlines the details of what will be lowered etc. I would re-send a copy of that letter to them with a note explaining what is NOT happening.
Is there a way you can get out of the agreement with them?
I wish I knew the right and most helpful answer. I am sure someone will have more useful advice. Good luck and hang in there.
HUGS!
I am so sorry this is happening to you.
My knee jerk reaction is the same as the previous post. That something is not getting done correctly. Are you allowed to make payments at this point directly to the CC companies since this agency is wreaking havoc for you? I like making my CC payments on line as soon as I have some money, not waiting for the due date. If I have $30.00, that's what I send then as soon as I get it. I don't mean to tell you anything you are already doing.
Another thing you can do is post a list of all of your outgoing monthly bills here, so people can give you ideas of ways to possibly reduce something, thus freeing up some cash ASAP.
But back to the agency, they need to be dealt with and as the PP said, hopefully an expert will write in some advice ASAP!
Thanks for your reply.
here are my monthly expenses:
my rent and all utilities
Thanks for your reply.
I am going to the credit counseling center next week after work.
My daughter suggested writing a letter to the credit card companies, giving them a list of my expenses. And see if they will work with me, and not go through the credit counseling center.
I have a attorney who has already sent me a
Hello Glynda,
You mentioned that your husband passed away - how old is your daughter? If she is under 18, you can get social security for her. I get almost $1000 a month for my daughter. There are also smaller benefits for widows - worth checking out.
It sounds like you are doing all you can do. If you have health problems a second job could be too hard on you, but have you thought about watching someones child for them in the evening? If the child is under five, its a little coloring with them, a game or two, dinner, and then bed. I have paid $75 per evening for this in the past.
Hi,
Yeah, you need your car, your health comes first. I agree with the PP you are totally frugal, I don't see where you can cut anything.
So great, you will go into the agency next week. I don't understand why the late charges?? Maybe I am ignorant. I just feel a more reasonable settlement can be struck.
I got over my head about fifteen years ago. I was a single, widowed mom too. I had to walk from my debt and seven years later they all fell off my credit report. But I did not go through an agency.
Um, can your daughter start paying on this debt? I know you have health issues keeping you from a second job, but can she get a second job now and make the payments OR can she use a credit card of hers to transfer the $2300 onto her account and then the two of you can make the payments? Maybe she can get a transfer balance offer thus getting you out from under the high interest rate and late payment charges every month?
This is a prime example of why we tell people NOT to use debt consolidation companies. YOU can do so much more yourself and not pay them for doing nothing.
Now that I am off my soapbox, huggggsss to you, you now have support here!
First of all, rework you budget so you pay your food, housing, utilities, medical and transportation first. Now figure what is left because that is what you have for credit card repayment.
You should call all the companies yourself, ask for the hardship department and go over the numbers with them. Honestly they have programs for people like you but they will not deal with a third party - or consolidation company.
Tell us your bills here, item by item, and let those of use that have been there help you and give you the support you need to get out of this right now.

Good idea about babysitting in the evenings....I will check into that...I have a great niece who is 4 years old...We enjoy spending time together.
I am 51 and my daughter is 31 years old... Her father passed away when she was 5 years old.
Because I am not paying the credit card companies the whole amount of the payment due, they keep adding on a late charge...
My daughter can't help, it came to the point where she had to file bankruptcy...
I may have to walk away from my debt as well...I am sure there are many others in my same situation...
Thanks for the support...It has helped to be able to tell someone...
