How do you learn to spend again???

Well, I am in the best financial position of my adult years. I still have debt (car, student loans that my dad pays, mortgage and appliances) but everything else is (finally) paid. I will be getting a large tax refund this year (somewhere between $2000 and $3000 that will pay off the appliances and fully fund all savings)

One of the things I gave up in my quest to be debt free was my gym membership. I have an opportunity to buy one through my work for about $340 for the year. That is the lowest price available (including the YMCA and Rec Centre) and is the same gym my friends go to.

I have the cash available to do it but it means that I won't be able to increase my savings by that much.

Hi Girly Girl,

Glad things have improved for you.

My two cents is perhaps you could find a savings comfort zone. Would it be 10% of your income? Once you have achieved your desired percentage and can live comfortably, then perhaps you would feel better about the gym membership.

If you are not that comfortable with your savings at this point, can you find a gym that has a day fee available?

Another possible option are the hotel spas. My town has a hotel with a spa that charges locals a small day fee to use their spa and work out facilities.

That way you can have it all - your desired savings and your fitness.
