Getting deals on groceries!!!!

OK! I was super excited this week by my grocery trip. I had $116 dollars this week and I think I made it go far. For dinner we are having bratwurst, chicken parm, chili with cornbread, fish, pasta all with plenty of sides. If you are wondering where my veggies are, I still had a whole bag of romaine heads and plenty of fruit still left from last week, plus frozen veggies in the freezer. I have boxes of cereal and oatmeal already at home for breakfasts.

My best find this week: I got a 2 dollar coupon for buying the Ragu. I got a 10 dollar coupon for buying the batteries, always pads, bounce and pampers wipes (and all of those items were on sale plus I needed them, plus I had a coupon for the batteries!) On top of that I had other coupons that added up to about 7 dollars. I saved myself about 60 dollars on my groceries this week!

By the way - I recently bought the book Coupon Mom with a Barnes and noble giftcard I got for Christmas. I have yet to read it, but I'll let you know if I find any really good tips. So far I'm having a really good time finding deals at the grocery store. I eat things I probably wouldn't normally eat (like the fish and the brats) and I it really makes me plan my meals so I don't have the need to order out like I used to. I've also gotten much better at it. It used to take me at least 2 hours a week to plan things out and now I'm down to one hour!

So here's my list (plus coupon means that I got the sales price which I list, but then I had a coupon as well)

Household:

Bounce Fabric softener sheets $5
Pampers wips (2 packages) $2.50 ea
16 Duracell AA batteries $10 plus coupon
Always pads (3 packages) $3.33 ea
Sandwhich bags $1
1 roll of paper towels (free!)
Bag of kitty litter (not on sale but in the household category)

Groceries:

3 jars of ragu $1.66 ea
3 packages of pasta $.50 ea
a box of clementines $4.88
3 mangoes $1 ea
2 chilli store brand soups $5 ea plus free movie rental
a pan of cornbread $2
2 juicy juice juiceboxes $2.50 ea plus coupon
2 packages of frozen cod $6.99
2 packages of bratwurst $3.99 plus coupon
3 packaged sandwhiches for DH's lunch $3
1 Chobani greek yogurt (Free!)
2 loafs of bread $1.99
1 box of canned seltzer water $2.50
2 cans of corn
4 cans of tuna $1.50 plus coupon
2 precooked chicken parmesan $5
1 package buitoni $5
1 loaf of french bread (Free!)
2 packages of hot dogs
3 boxes of mac and cheese $4
2 bunches of bananas $3

Celery hearts $1.79
baby carrots

Wow Abbie, looks like you scored big time! The Ragu and tuna really caught my attention, because spag sauce and tuna are staples on every grocery trip for my family. DH loves ragu brand and I only buy it when it's on steep sales because of $. Our second choice is Hunt's in can's which walmart carries 26 oz cans for $1.08, but I do notice we need to use more of it because it's thinner.

Abbie, I'm so jealous because I had a particularly bad grocery trip this weekend.

great job! I think I'm going to try to plan next week's menu when the grocery ads come out this week. Grocery spending is a HUGE part of our spending problem. I'm using your post as inspiration!!

My hubby is out of town this week so I'm trying to see how little I can spend on groceries (no eating out allowed) while he's gone. Figured it would be a good time to clean out the freezer/cupboards.

Well you've all inspired me!

I made taco's for dinner last night and then immediately packed up my lunch for today (mmmmm, taco salad). I still had 8 taco shells and taco sauce left over, so I decided to try and freeze them to see what happens (to see if it stays fresher, longer). All I have to do

Bex, do you leave the soup condensed, or do you reconstitute it?
