13 years old and smarter than mom.

So I was stressing about my personal spending worksheet (writing down every penny I spend) and my 13 year old daughter said "OMG mom I am never using any credit. I'm only spending cash. If I don't have cash I guess I can't get it." I almost cried with joy!! Thought I'd share for everyone to get a chuckle. Of course 5 minutes later she's asking me for more minutes for her phone. Oh the joys of teenagerdom!

Hmmm, at least your teenager talks to you! And what a thing to say, that is fabulous.
I want to teach my kids more about money but I don't want to give them my personal info. I already do the allowance thing for chores and get them to save. My older DS(13 in a couple weeks yeesh) saves until he gets $50 then I deposit the cash for him in his bank account. My younger DS saved some Christmas money and bought books he wanted from his school book order. I would prefer him to deposit some too but I am reluctant to say no to books.
I tried once to explain how a credit card works but it was lost on younger DS altogether and I think older DS got it but didn't give it a lot of thought. They do know they are bad though because I have said so many times. I did explain the good things though like booking a hotel room but having to have cash to put on your visa right away.
I often wonder how they will turn out with money, especially since my ex is a big spender. All I can do is give them the info. Time will tell.
