I don't know if it's the January blah's or a bad case of S.A.D., but I've been feeling really down and negative for the past week or so.

But, OMG, do you ever just get so sick and tired of feeling poor all the time??

hugs to you for your rough day. we have all fallen trap to that attitude before and it won't be the last time, either.

remember that you enjoyed your lunch with your daughter, savored the wine, and move on.

good luck to you getting back on track. hope you feel better soon.

I think we all have moments of insanity. I told DH to stop on the way home & buy a case of beer (which hopefully will last us a while but his family is coming over tomorrow, so who knows)....and I totally justified it because I made an "extra" 495 this week by taking extra kids on, & found $15 cash in my pocket...
Not a bad splurge but DH is also making a bday supper for my & my sister's bday this weekend, which I'm sure is going to cost more than my $10/supper budget...

So yep, I completely understand it all. The key is to recover from it & learn from it & not get into the habit of doing it all the time...cuz if you start drinking wine at lunch every day you might end up with bigger problems then money ;)

Hi Kate,

I usually just lurk but your post mentioned a few things that makes me think that you are in the same city as me (I am very familiar with Westboro! So many great restaurants and shops). So I wanted to post just a few comments.

I know you don't think that the guy from Health Canada's call was a good thing, but think of the message he sent: your daughter is an excellent candidate for the job - this should be reassuring. She should not give up trying and applying. However, as you likely know (not sure if you work for the gov't) - the ability to speak both languages is very important here. Some positions don't require it, but many, many do. She might want to consider trying to start learning on her own. Many gov't. employees who are not fluently bilingual are given language training while they are being paid - so she should not give up unless she never wants to learn it - a career in the gov't., at least in this town, is very unlikely without some knowledge of French. (I have a very unilingual sibling who got a gov't. job about 8 years ago and even he is learning.)

Second - wow, that was a pricey lunch! If 45$ was the wine, then about 60$ (less the taxes, of course!) was food - that's pretty pricey food too. (Can almost guess the restaurant based on that alone!) Can't say I've ever done that (I am not a wine drinker), spending that much on a single meal - but if it's a one-time thing, I think you're entitled to a little slip.

But as for SAD? It was finally sunny out today! I hear you on the January blahs, but seeing the sun at last is finally making me feel better. Getting out into the sunshine (and it wasn't too cold either!) really helps.

Anyhow - hope you are feeling better tonight!

If the only thing keeping your daughter from the jobs she wants and is qualified for is a lack of French, has she considered just going ahead and learning French?

Oh Kate I am so sorry. I understand the debt fatigue. It can really get to you sometime. I say don't worry about it. Think of this as the perfect opportunity to work on getting your food budget down! And you have the PC points to make up for it anyway if needed. Just enjoy the day and think of the relaxing afternoon you had!

I would just enjoy it and not be upset about it.
