A nice gesture

My sister came downstairs today and handed me a $20 bill. She said she wanted to give me money because she hasn't done her fair share of shopping for shared items lately (milk, butter etc) and felt bad.
I didn't really notice, but it was a nice suprise. I will put it in the jar for my hair cut fund (I made an appointment for Feb 9 and have two weeks to save the money for it!!!)

That is a nice gesture -
SO has a boat - we take it out a lot in the summer time.
We also have a nice house we stay in during the summer months and can usually invite another couple or two (depends if they have kids).
When we invite people to come out, all we ask is that they bring a cooler with whatever they are drinking. Basically there is no cost for them to come out other than their own gas money to get them out and their drinks.
I usually supply lots of snacks on the boat and we pull skiers, and wake boarders and go up river to the bar and sand bar and have a great time.
Some of our friends hand over $20.00 - $50.00 depending on the price of gas. They also will offer to make a meal for all of us and that is also LOVED. It costs us over $100.00 to fill both tanks in the boat. That will last only a weekend if we do lots of driving. So whenever anyone helps we appreciate it - we also continue to invite them onto the boat and into our home for them to enjoy, because it helps us enjoy going out as well. The friends we have that don't ever help out only get one invite.
Sure we understand people have hard times but if they knew how much it cost to get them on the lake they may not be so stingy -- it's not a "free" weekend. (launch fee's are about $10.00 per day as well but we usually buy an annual pass at the start of the season)
It's uncomfortable to "ask" for help but we feel it's implied. It's like going to dinner with friends - one time one couple pays the other time the other couple pays or we say split the tab right at the beginning of dinner if we go with big drinkers. You just have these unspoken rules.
$20.00 helps alot these days !!!
