My husband works for Sun Micrsystems. They got bought out by Oracle a while back and it has been in limbo all this time. Oracle took over this week and sent out information to all Sun employees regarding benefits. I checked and our speech therapy coverage doesn't look to be nearly as good. We had 120 visits/year and coverage for developmental delay through age 19. My daughter is almost 11 and goes to speech therapy twice/week at $93/session. Insurance has been covering it at 90%! Others are astounded at how we got such good coverage, so I knew this was probably rare. The new plan says 60 visits/year and the limitations don't show anything about developmental delay. She's got a language disorder, which under the DSM is listed as a developmental problem. She's bright, but just has this one issue. The speech therapy has been helping a lot.
So, now I am sitting here waiting to see if it's going to be covered at all or if we'll be limited to 60 visits/year. She normally goes twice/week and then three times/week in the summers. I'm thinking that we could cut summers back to twice/week and then there are always a few weeks of vacation plus she comes to IEP meetings with us. Maybe we'd have to pay for 40 visits out of pocket if only 60 are covered.
If nothing is covered then we could pay for once/week out of pocket if the therapist is willing to take her once/week. Normally she takes kids twice/week, but she also knows that I am willing to work with my daughter at home a lot, so she might be ok with that.
The reason I am so bummed is because we are FINALLY going to be CC-debt free for the first time in a very long time. The only debt we'll have is our mortgage and a loan from our 401K that we got so that we could refinance the mortgage. It's a 5 yr loan that we pay ourselves back.
Anyway, not sure what will happen, but keep your fingers crossed. If you know anyone who works for Oracle and has a kid in speech therapy would you mind asking if I may contact them?
Thanks
Kathryn

Hi,
Yes, she goes to speech therapy at school as well. It's kind of a joke, but we keep it going anyway. Hoping it can't hurt. The therapist at school doesn't even know how to describe our daughter's needs very well. And there are so many weeks when the school therapy is canceled. Therapist is a in a meeting, out sick, etc....
She's going to middle school and the school will decrease from twice/week to once/week.

I was going to suggest the school but I see you already go that route too.
All my sons needed speech therapy, mine all go through school though.
Good Luck!
