...My dryer, that is!

Obviously it was on it's last legs of life, I mean what kind of self-respecting dryer takes 6-8 hours to dry a load of laundry?
But you think it could've had the common courtesy of waiting until the 15th when we had money to replace it? Jeez!

Very frustrating that we had plans to replace it (it's in the budget!) but somehow I stilled end up SOL.

In the mean time, I am so behind on laundry already, and of course my just toilet trained child had like 10 accidents this weekend!
5 kids and a dayhome and no dryer...I don't even know if my step-kids are going to have clothes to wear on Friday to school lol!

DH doesn't work on Friday I think he might be spending the day at the laundromat...Or maybe I could make a field trip out of for the dayhome kids ROFL.

Ok that is hilarious. I feel your pain. We had to replace our washing machine about 4 months ago. And (I'm not kidding) the next month our dryer quit heating. Luckily, it just needed a heating element.

I haven't read through all the posts so if this is a repeat, just ignore me...I'm running on little brain power today.

Did you clean out the hose that runs to the outside of the house?

Our dryer was taking FOREVER to dry clothes -- I finally nagged DH enough to check into that.

6-8 hours to dry a load of laundry?? if you have been able to handle that, you have the patience of a saint! i would have torn all the hair from my head in frustration. i only have one 7 month old and i think i do a lot of laundry- i can't even imagine the laundry you see in your house. LOL!

good luck with the "field trip". i hope you find some laundry peace soon!

LOL- RIP Dryer. definitely good monday giggles.

Thank you for your condolences Kate. lol.
Surprisingly enough, despite the inconvenience, I really am not sad about the stupid dryer. I can't wait to see it leave my house! lol.

The dryer is an old gas one - old owners pulled a fast one on us when we bought the house in 2008. DH is an electrician & he & handy appliance fixer friend have pulled it apart - the problem is the lint trap is all warped, thus letting the lint into places it should not go. The end result is years, years (Lord only knows how many!) of lint build up on the internal fan. The only way to fix it is to take the fan & all the parts apart, and clean it out; DH & handy appliance fixer friend say this is a lost cause; once that fan comes out is unlikely it will go back in. And obviously it needs a new lint screen & it is so old we can't find one that fits in it. Seriously, it's that old. That is why it was taking so long to dry.

Now, strangely, the reason it's done, is that the drum decided to no longer rotate whatsoever. For no apparent (or fixable) reason.

I've been hanging a LOT of our laundry but we have pressure-mounted shower rods so they do about 5-6 damp shirts before they fall down lol. And our basement is closed in, so there's really nowhere I can put up a line....trust me these are all things I've pondered before. ...I use every iota of closet space possible and have been known to hang laundry from our stair rails lol.

Luckily, step-daughter has a large closet and I think I may hijack it for the next couple weeks ....it's not like she currently has any clean clothes in there!

I'm sorry your dryer died, but just think of all the money you'll save on the electric bill when you do get the new dryer.

Have you considered a folding rack style clothes dryer? I own a couple and use them all the time. Nope, it's not pretty, but it saves me going to the laundromat, and it only takes about 4-5 loads at the laundromat to cover the cost of buying one ($15-20 for one).

Here's a link to a picture of one like I have. http://www.londondrugs.com/msib20/EnlargedImage.aspx?product=/msib20/ProductImages/3451549_large.jpg

I run a dehumidifier during the day when I am not home to help pull the damp out of the house...electricity is included in my rent...laundry isn't...

I feel your pain. My dryer did the same thing last year. Turns out that the vent that runs from the dryer to the house is not hard plastic (as it should be) and so lint gets caught. I got it cleaned out and dryer is good as new . . . although I would LOVE to upgrade to an energy efficient one . . . oh well, one thing at a time, right?
