Ok, I guess I should post. The reason I haven't is because I have no idea on anything yet LOL!.
We don't have to file until April 15th and I will not have all my info until close to that. My accountant still has not completed my corporate taxes and that is relevant so I need to get that info. The same accountant will do mine an BF's taxes together this year. Last year I filed separately so it will be very different this year. BF has farm credits and income to claim and also has Tuition credits still.
I am hoping it comes out to a big fat zero with our school tuition and claiming one of my kids(ex claims the other). I am sure next year we will have to pay. I really hope not but I can't see that going any other way with so much income that is not taxed(our land rent). So we will see and set things up accordingly in our budget for next year.
If by some miracle we get money back we will do the following:if it is small we will just put it in our savings as a buffer. If it is large we will put it on BF's student loan.
However, to sum things up, I just hope we don't have to pay. I am not really excited about taxes if you can tell. I happy for others though that sound excited about their returns. Congrats.
I have received my refund from the federal taxes, which was $1650. I have put that all into savings. I am working on getting my 6 month EF fully funded. Almost there, $750 to go. I am blending the Suze & Dave schools of thought. I am funding my 6 month EF and then getting gazelle on my car loan. If I should lose my income, having no debt and a small savings will do me no good. I would rather have more in savings to

Apparently I touch a nerve which was not the point. I also work in the evening and from home. I also have used childcare just not an offical daycare. My point was that I wish I could get some credit for taking care of my children at home similar to the childcare credit that is given to parents that pay for daycare.
I am not going to dig up studies about what children do better if they have

Alright, I've had the taxes done for almost a week now, but just finally had the time to do the run-through and make sure there were no errors or anything on them before submitting them.
Ugh... taxes.
We went ahead and filed this week and we're getting about $1000 back federal. I had wanted to use it to pay down debt or put into savings but... DH is deploying in 1-2 months so most of it is going to pre-deployment purchases and necessities.
*sigh*
I am stunned. I did taxes all afternoon and into last night with Turbo Tax and we are getting $1989 back from federal and $315 from state. My freelance income was over $20K (nothing taken out) and I had a 401K withdrawl and unemployment. I was sure we'd have to pay this year. I guess the drop in my husband's income and my biz expenses made up the difference. I always get a little sloppy towards the end of TurboTax because I don't totally understand what I'm doing and I want to be done. I hope it doesn't bite me in the butt later.
I was unable to e-file my federal return so I have to do snail mail. Probably take a month or longer to get that back (grrrr). When it does come I hope to pay off remaining orthodonitist balance early which will free up $300 per month. The rest will go into efund.
I am so frustrated, though. I am owed $2,000 for work done last month with another $3300 also allegedly "coming." There will also be another $1,000 to $1,500 due to me by month's end plus now the tax refunds. That's a hefty chunk of change that I'm supposed to just sit tight and wait for. Funny how the mortgage and credit card companies don't seem as flexible about waiting.
I had to drain my draw-down fund to pay mortgage and other things due this week while I wait. My husband will get paid at the end of the week and probably all of the checks will arrive at once. I HAVE to force myself to have the discpline to realize that money is already spent and put anything that comes in immediately back in draw-down fund and not spend it because our bank balance looks flush.
In our case, we only get the money back due to credits, so we literally can not get the money back ahead of time.
