Bcs of my skids, I tend to think of dates in terms of weekdays vs weekends. This month, the 15th is part of a "weekend" in my brain, bcs it's a holiday.
We get paid on the 15th & EOM. - If those dates fall on a weekend, we get paid Friday @ 12:01 am instead. So in my mind, I thought we were getting paid on Friday.
We're not.
Shoot.
That leaves me with $175 to pay for $21 field trip (must be pd by Fri), gas, DH's smokes (don't get me started), milk, diapers, food until Monday. That should be ok.
But it's the 10th, and a renter hasn't paid rent. Truck payment is due today - and I'm $165 short. RV payment is Friday - and I'm a lot more short than that...We *might* be able to get a grace period for the RV pmnt until Monday, but we are SOL for the truck.
Unless I use my last $175 to cover it.
And then all I (don't) have is $100 in my new, slowly-growing e-fund. Does it count as an emergency when I don't have money for diapers & food?
(Doesn't help that DH does actually have to work on Monday, so its not like I can go out & buy stuff that day)
Gawd I DESPISE being a landlord & depending on other ppl for income
Edit to say: I totally screwed my dates up. My RV pmnt went through yesterday, so that account is now overdrawn. No way in heck I can cover that one. It just keeps getting better!

I would say it qualifies as an emergency. Some would say it does not. I think as long as you don't have to charge, and you pay the efund back asap it makes sense.
You do have your hands full. Give yourself a break.
i think that if you need food and diapers and the alternative is to charge those items versus take the $ from the e-fund, i would use the e-fund. food and diapers are non-negotiable must have items.
it's not as though you could have anticipated that your renter would not pay on time- therefore i would qualify it as an emergency. you can repay your e-fund once you get the rent.
but that's me- everyone has their own way with it.
good luck with whatever you decide- hope you can manage to get to the store!

Anytime you do not have money for basics or the minimum payments it qualifies in my book as an emergency.
I agree with the others - diapers, milk and food count as emergency expenses but the DH smokes? not so much ;-)
Just remember to pay back the efund first when the renter's check comes through. Hang on Monday/payday will be here soon!
Well it seems I have even bigger things to worry about....
just got diagnosed with BAD bronchitis/pneumonia (officially, a chest x-ray is needed before doc will diagnose pneumonia, but she says that's what it sounds like).
So not only am I not working, I have to call my babysitter over to take care of my kids bcs apparently I look like the walking dead from not sleeping & this could be viral so I might give it to the kids. Boo.
Thank goodness, my babysitter is like family & wont charge me tomorrow. And my Mom (who moved away from us) told me SHE will pay the babysitter because it's cheaper than a plane ticket out to help me lol.
Thank goodness, I got one med free from the doc, and the other 2 were less than $20.
(BTW, it was a *blast* spending 4.5 hours waiting at the walk-in clinic. Never.Again.)
