Selling on Ebay?

I have some things I'd like to sell on ebay but I haven't sold anything in years and I don't know anything about shipping. I'm worried about how to price items & ship them so I don't end up paying more to ship something than I would make selling it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make selling/shipping easy?

eBay actually has a feature now that lets everyone (sellers and potential buyers) calculate the shipping fees on the auction page.

I agree with Robyn. That feature has been extremely helpful. I used to lose money by under-estimating the shipping all the time. No longer! I also use flat-rate shipping boxes whenever possible. I pick up a bunch and they're all ready to go. It makes it quicker and easier to list things too. Just make sure your item fits in the box you've intended before you list.

I paid $17 for a scale that goes to 50 pounds in 0.2 ounce increments. I weigh my packages before I list and use USPS.com to get a shipping total for my listings. Then after the sale I use my scale again to get an exact weight so I can print prepaid labels from home. That way I don't have to waste gas going to the post office. It works beautifully for me, but if you're only selling a few things I wouldn't recommend paying for the scale. (I list as a second income, so it's well worth it in my situation).
