Zen, Credit Cards and Shoes

As some of you are aware I love to shop to excess...I love beautiful well made things...In the past I was constantly getting rid of things (mostly donating) and replacing items
My main loves are household furnishings, clothes, music, books, colognes, sheets and shoes....

oh duke- congrats! i am so glad that you got the shoes of your dreams.
it definitely pays to be loyal to your local establishments. it also pays to dream big, even if you don't go home with the shoes the first day. i think you have been doing a great job with changing your spending habits and finding the zen in it all.
many years ago i designed a coffee table with an artisan metalworker and he made it for me (and barely charged me for it, he was just getting his start). everyone remarks on this table and over the years i have put out many cards and referrals, not knowing if he ever made any sales from them. about 5 years later i called on him to inquire about making a wine rack, he remembered me, had my name on several referral sheets and gave me the wine rack as his token of appreciation for my "hard work on his behalf". by the time i called back he was very successful and his pieces were selling for about 4x's what he was charging when i first met him and he could easily have blown me off. in my mind it is the difference between being a patron and being a customer, and though it is a small difference, it is worthy of distinction.
anyway- off topic. congrats and i hope the shoes look absolutely stunning with your blazers!

I love it Duke! Not even the women on the board get things for free. I hope you enjoy the shoes. You deserve to.

Congratulations Duke.

Thank you all for your kind words...
I wore one pair today to work...and I honestly could not keep my eyes off them...lol...
I went out for dinner tonight and one of my friends laughed and said you are looking more at your shoes than the pretty girls in the restaurant...lol
Anyhow....thanks again for the kind words
I know the story is a bit frivolous but it did make me happy

I love reading your posts. You have a wonderful way with words. Maybe you should start a blog & earn some side income!
I'm glad it worked out for you. As a PP said, personal relationships really are disappearing. One of my best friends was a guy that served me coffee when I was in high school & we would skip class to have coffee lol....and that was 15 years ago....
Enjoy your shoes...even more so than normal, because you did not go into debt for them!
