Not that I am overly religious, but I can't believe I forgot about it completely (maybe

Good luck! I couldn't do that!

My current vice is the generic potato chips - I can get them for 99 cents a bag at Sobeys (as opposed to Lays etc costing 3-4!)
Before that it was popcorn with extra salt & butter...
I have a ridiculous metabolism so I'm not gaining weight but I imagine all the salt can't be good for me....I bet you'll feel so much better if you can cut all that stuff out!

I tried telling DH (non-practicing Catholic) that he should set a good example for the kids (attend Catholic school) and give up SMOKING for Lent! Even if we still have to pay for the patch or whatever it would long-term help our budget!
(He didn't listen).

I know you weren't inviting others to join, but I'm going to join anyway...I grew up without organized religion but I tried this last year. Honestly don't remember how it went.

I'm going to put the last few tins of Coke and the last of my Christmas chocolate (how there's any of that left, I don't know) away, and I am going to give up:

Pop/soda
chips of any description
candy bars, chocolate, ice cream, expensive tinned/bottled drinks
frozen meals (though I don't eat much of that)
alcohol, though I rarely have any

My exceptions will be: homemade popcorn, hot chocolate made from cocoa, and the occassional slice of pie.

When does Lent end??
My motivations are the same as yours, budget and waistline.

I gave up diet coke. And if you knew me you would really know how hard it was! I was a 7 can a day addict but it was also something I was very dependant on so I knew that was the one thing I could work on. The first day I struggled and had 2 sodas, the second day only one and since then I am free!!! I would kill my husband for a diet coke right now lol. I love Lent though.
