My daughter and I were having a debate last night regarding the contents of our wallets.

I'm just like your daughter! I carry zero cash and just my debit card. For me it really does keep my spending down. I have no problem spending cash on any impulse I feel, but I think more before using my debit card (which is only attached to my checking account).

It drives my boyfriend crazy that I don't carry any cash. He likes to always have a little bit on him 'just in case.'

I carry cash, as we're working from cash budgets rather than debit. I will generally be carrying our Grocery/Household budget cash (most of which is spent right away, leaving maybe $20-$30 for incidentals over two weeks) plus my own "blow" cash ($30 every two weeks). I almost never use the debit card when I'm out and about; it makes balancing the checkbook soooo much easier!

I carry cash if I am going somewhere when it is gone it is gone. Otherwise I generally don't. I carry my debit card with hardly any money in my chequing account(my efund is in my savings account and I cannot access it with my card) I also carry my credit card which I rarely use. If I don't spend what I was planning to, I leave the cash at home to supplement what I pay my kids for allowance so I don't have to replenish it as often. I fund flip basically from one overage to another shortage in another category. It works out.

I work at my store all day long and If I want a bag a of chips I just take one LOL! Its probably why I am 30 pounds over weight!

The most is $140. Every payday (every 2 weeks) I take out $320. $40 is for gas, $80 is for the cleaning lady and $200 is my allowance for two weeks (food and fun). I put $180 in the drawer immediately and then carry around the $140 until a) Its gone or b) the next wednesday hits. If I have any left on Wednesday then I stick it in a jar for those times when I am short.

Complicated and convoluted I know . . . but it works for me!

I usually carry about $20 in spending cash, but I have up to $200 in a back pocket of my wallet for emergencies. It seldom gets spent, but I just like knowing it's there just in case. The one time I recall being really glad we had cash was on our way home from a weekend away and the little town we always like to stop in to take a break, and get a bite to eat, had been hit by a windstorm just hours before and there was no power anywhere, luckily we didn't need gas, but none of the businesses could operate their tills or debit machines etc. So cash was the only way to get anything.

Duke, is that your weekly spending money, or do you just carry a couple of hundred until it runs out?

I'll bet you never worry about losing your wallet.
