Fraud on my CC

Hi Friends,

I got a call from one of my CC. They wanted to double check some charges on my account. Well, they were not mine.

They canceled the card and are sending me a new one along with the fraud paperwork.

It feels sad. I wonder how it got stolen and if there is anything I can do to stop my invasion of privacy from happening again.

I've got the creeps now.

Thanks for listening,

Audrey

Did the actual card get stolen or just the number? Glad the CC company was on top of things.

That is creepy.
I'd put money on the swipe scam - when you use your card at a store and swipe it, sometimes there's fake ones that take the info. I know I explained that badly.

A few years ago, when we were still living in our rental but had the basement apartments rented out, a family friend that we were giving a break on rent stole some of DH's visa cheques that came in the mail....thankfully we didn't get dinged for them...

At least your cc company noticed and called you! Nice to hear the compnays do actually work for the people once in a while!

If you can check any other cards on line you might want to make sure you dont notice any strange charges on other cards.

Not to be a negative Nellie here, I am glad your CC company called you to verify the charges, but you also have to be careful when they call that they really are who they say they are. If I am not sure I will tell them that I will call back to the customer service. There have been instances where you are called by a supposed CC company to verify a charge, and they say ok we will take that charge off and ask you to read the number off the back of your card to verify that you have the card in your possession. Once they have that number they can make charges to your card.
Your card could have been stolen by a fake card reading machine, or even possibly by someone going through your garbage or the stores garbage, (I make sure to shred any credit card info I don't need to keep where I work)
Check your credit card online on a regular basis to keep track of any untoward charges. I check mine weekly.

Hi Dana,

Just the number was stolen. They charged $300.00 in shoes and attempted airline tix to the Caribbean both on-line.

Yes, Chase was very easy-peazy to deal with on this issue. They told me I would not see those items on my bill.

Thanks,

Audrey

Hi Melissa,

Thanks for your post. Wow, I've heard of people who steal from people who help them out like that, so sad, sorry that happened to you.

Yes, the CC called me when the airline tix were being processed. They thanked me for calling them back right away.

So far, so good.

Hi Norma,

I'm sorry you have gone through this. I will look into the fraud protection. I always thought it was just a scheme, but maybe it can really help.

Thanks,

Audrey
