Use what you have

I love that my youngest son did this. He made up new names for my creative meals.

I always seem to have the wrong bun for hamburgers or hot dogs. Or I will use half the bag of buns one night and the same bag another night with the two types of meat.

Anyway my youngest son's definitions:

Hamburgers with hot dog buns: Hot Burgers
Hot dogs with Hamburger buns: Burger Dogs

You don't have to run out and get new buns! Just cut the meat in half and shove it in the bun.

How do you use what you have?

Nobody eats bread crusts in my house so I always throw them in the freezer - eventually they add up to be enough for stuffing or breadcrumbs etc.

Yesterday I made taco rice but had no corn or taco chips for on top, so I fried up leftover pita bread and sprinkled taco seasoning on top.

I use old apples that the kids wont eat (bruises etc) ato make apple cinnamon oatmeal.

I mix tomato paste 1:3 with water and a little sugar to cut the bitterness instead of buying tom sauce.

I make juice from concentrate and inevitably the thicker stuff ends up at the bottom no matter how well you mix it - when the jugs down to about 1/4 full I just add more water.

My kids don't know, but I keep skim milk powder on hand. I have 3.25% milk for my 1 yo, so when we're low on milk, I mix some of that will reconstituted milk powder and put it in the 2% milk jug that kids use...they dont every notice the difference unless you tell them...

I ran out of baby wipes and I have been using paper towels for the past couple days. I'm almost out of paper towels and if that happens before I refill my grocery money then I guess I'm on to wash clothes and running the washing machine a little more often lol. Make it work! I diluted down the bottle of dish soap obout 4 times already.

This might also sound strange but a couple times lately the one store i shop at has had really fantastic sales on bagged oranges.

i always have some type of shredded cheese on hand in the fridge, mozzerella, italian blend, asiago, cheddar, or mexican blend. but it's usually just one type at any given time. so last night we had fajitas with mozzerella and asiago cheese. i have been known to use mexican blend for lasagna. it all works out just fine and it does keep things from getting predictable. :)

i will also buy brat buns since they are larger than hotdog buns and use them for hot dogs, brats, and then meatball subs or french dip sandwiches. they are versatile.

Try frozen red or black grapes.

Norma, you stole my grape idea, lol! I do that all the time.

I also save all meat leftovers and once in a blue moon make kitchen sink soup (which has pretty much anythign and everythign in it . . . its pretty tasty!)

I water down my laundry detergeant. I have a high efficiency washer and should be using HE detergeant, but I don't. I love the extra
