My very first novel was offered a contract AND AN ADVANCE from the very first publisher I submitted to! I can NOT believe it! And to think the only reason I wrote it at all was because I managed to convince myself that I couldn't "do fiction" and, well, I don't like being told I can't do something - not even by ME.
I seem to be rewarded by the universe for finishing a novel. The very DAY I finished the edit of my first novel (something DH wasn't aware of, mind you) he brought home a laptop for me as a surprise. Now, I'm within a week of finishing my second novel and my "gift" is a contract on the first one. UNBELIEVABLE! And it's a great contract, very fair, and the finished product will be at absolutely no cost to me, plus I retain all rights (other than they have the right of first refusal if I write another novel using the same characters.)
My jaw is on the floor. It made it past my third trimester belly and managed to hit the floor. INSANE.

Thank you ALL SO MUCH! I'm just in shock and I'm floored by all of the support you guys are sending my way, especially since I've not only been almost MIA here but falling down on the blog as well. (Someone DH is close to - and he just LOOOVED DH - died unexpectedly, which led to a major blow up with MIL. What an odd week.)
The funny thing about this story is that it was my first and my voice is SO much stronger now. Really. I wanted to make my mark with romantic suspense and I can't tell you how sophisticated my writing is on #2 compared to #1. In fact, the difference is so crazy that I'd decided not to resub #1 anywhere WHEN I got my rejection (LOL). It took a bit of deliberation to agree to the contract, in fact, because my voice has changed so much. But I know at the same time that a history of being published will really help me sell novel #2 - and it will be ready for submission soon - and I just *have* to give myself the chance. I will be cowering in the corner waiting for the reviews to come out, though. You need a concrete shell to take those jabs, and I don't have one!
Anyway, the contacted novel is a romance. Here's the blurb I wrote, which may or may not stick through the editing process. I'm sharing this because I have NO ability whatsoever to make a long story short, LOL. (I did write this, though!)

When Jack Gellar returns to Jefferson Heights after five long years and an unforgettable betrayal, is his appearance the last thing Molly Coleman needs in her tragedy-stricken life … or the first?
Molly just lost her entire family, and now her home and business are both on the line. An unexpected encounter with the one man who can put the pieces back together leaves her reeling, for he can just as easily destroy what little she has left. Jack has a lot to prove to win her back, but when a lapse in judgment turns into an ultimatum he can’t refuse, will his choice bring them together or tear them apart for good?
FLINGING DEBT:
Oh congratulations Sarah, that is so wonderful!!
