I was looking at spending reports in Quicken (best $30 I've spent this year, BTW) and was amazed at our biggest expense category.

Not including rent, our biggest expense is my DDs private school tuition.

Aside from the rent our biggest expense is our car payment ($512). DH has insurence through the VA since he has injuries from the Army. Apparently the whole family is supposed to get coverage as well since he is over a certain percentage but that is one of those things where the minute you mention it on the phone to the claims rep the line suddenly goes dead and no one knows what happened. Once that happens it will be a huge relief. But still, I'm not counting my chickens on that one!

After our mortgage, our biggest expense is definitely food/household necessities.

after our mortgage, etc, the biggest expense is childcare. for one baby we will pay 11,960 this year. our other biggest 'expense' is debt payments- we are currently putting at least 1050 to cc debt every month- which makes it even more than the childcare.

Mortgage and student loans are about tied as far as how much money goes out each month.

Our rental mortgage is $1800 a month. And we got that down from 2278 a month!

Debt repayment is supposed to be $1575 a month according to my budget, but has not been.

As for variable spending, food. 7 people + dayhome = $1000-1200 a month on food.

But $340 a month for smokes is our biggest most ridiculous non-necessary expense....grrrr....

Hmmmm I would love to say that my mortgage is my biggest expense but if you really see what goes out the door I'm going to say kids! Between what they eat, all their activities, clothing, and what I am trying to put away for them each month it is ridiculous.

1.We also pay a mortgage 829/mo
2.Car payment 754/mo(high I know but no interest and it is for 26 more months. I know that sound like a long time but at least there is an end date on it, unlike children and the never ending mortgage.
3.and $500/mo student loans.

Good God! No wonder we never have money. I think my stomach dropped a bit there. Can you see why I can't wait to stop saving for kids, paying on the car, and knock out those student loans. I will feel rich too Norma! Go 2014!! Hopefully sooner, which is why there is a flaking frenzy going on!
