I was looking at spending reports in Quicken (best $30 I've spent this year, BTW) and was amazed at our biggest expense category.

Yes, kids are expensive, and how come we can't claim them as an asset?

I was thinking that when calculating my Economic Productivty Score (different thread) and started to wonder "where did all my money go all these years?"

FOOD is our biggest expense after mortgage and utilities. After that it is our car payment.

I am looking forward to farmer markets and our garden.

Wow, looking at the childcare expenses listed on here makes me grateful to have the job I do. I don't make as much as I could working most other places, but I have company provided daycare in the building. I would have to say that our highest single payment is our mortgage, but our biggest actual expense would be our automobiles, between two car payments, insurance (not

Our biggest expense (after mortgage) right now would be food of about $600 a month. (I include baby stuff in that total as I buy most of it at grocery store)

Mortgage - $800 (because we raised our payments when we re-mortgaged)
Utilities - $300 (heat, lights, water)
Daycare - $400 (only 4 days per week as SIL takes DGD one day a week)And that is only for another 6 weeks or so.
Medical - $300 (provincial plan plus extended)
Debt repayment - $400-500
savings - $200
