We are fortunate that a family member has a small vacation home that they let us use for free :)

Well I don't normally do too much. The reason is because my BF helps neighbors and parents farm, and I try to work half days when I have my kids. That means the other half of the day I can spend with the kids and I have to pay someone for the half I'm not working. It doesn't leave a pile of time for going anywhere or a pile of money which gets eaten up in wages.

That being said, one of my kids is going to three camps and one is going to two camps. And they both have swimming lessons. I am paying for one camp, one is free through funding through the church, and one the ex and I are splitting. I also talked him into paying for the swimming lessons. Hey, I 'm the one that books all this stuff(not an easy task with all the forms that need to be filled out and I know he can't be bothered with that stuff0, he can pay for a bit extra. Plus he wants the kids the first two weeks of July to take them on yet another trip. Jeesh, I don't think they will fly...he talked about driving somewhere. He has to pay for school supplies this year too since last year I bought them expecting him to pay me back half and he balked and said I spent too much. So I said, ok, you pay for them next year. I bet I won't hear boo, since I am a super good shopper and I know he can't do it for less. What ever, not my problem this year.

I do feel a bit guilty I don't actually take them anywhere, but they will be super busy this summer.

My BF's work does own some summer cabins and we will put in for that again this year. You don't get picked to go every year and we didn't last year but maybe this year. All we would have to bring is food and just relax so that would be great. Perhaps if that doesn't happen we can get away for a weekend. We will see what happens but we don't have anything planned.

I know I need to work as much as possible. Sometimes owning your own business sucks! At least it is not as pressured with the kids being older and able to take care of themselves for at least half a day and having so many activities planned. There will come a day with when they don't want to go to camp so I will just take that at what it is worth and run with it. They really do enjoy it.

we are hoping to take a long weekend to kansas city sometime in june. we have a free hotel night so that will help. we are targeting the vacation sinking fund now that the shed is fully funded.

we also have to attend a wedding/ vacation planned for september. we don't have to pay for lodging, but it will be a LONG vacation with dh's family. and even without lodging it will be expensive. if we aren't on target to save for it in june we won't be taking the long weekend. but we are putting the money aside and hope to have more than enough by september! my sanity spending that much time staying with dh's family is another matter, can i start building that up, too?? LOL.

DH had planned for us to go to Vegas in July for our anniversary. We've canceled that plan and have gotten the deposit back which is good. Vegas is cheap for a lot of things but in the end would have cost us way too much. And anyway, we got married in Vegas in July. It is miserable there in July! The only reason we survived it then was because we were living in El Paso at the time and were used to the heat. Now that we're up north I think it would kill us!

However, we still do have the babysitter for the kids for the Vegas trip and I'm thinking that we would just take those few days and do a cheaper, closer weekend getaway for me and DH. It'll be July so if we go north we should get great weather without too much heat. I'm thinking coast of Main or something like that.

To pay for it I am already tucking money away into savings a little at a time. I'm hoping to get together at least $1000. No way will it cost that much but then the extra can be used to spend on a weekend at the beach with all of us.

Due to the nature of DH's job, we really don't have any off time to do vacations in the summer anymore.

I opened up an account at a credit union in our town last year and the purpose was to save money for vacation - we went on a cruise last year - and after the initial deposit was made we divided the remainder by the number of weeks we had left to have it paid off and I think it was like $22.00 a week and I deposited that in the bank - that included spending money and everything - worked out perfectly.
