I have always had at least one job (since I have been remarried) and two before that as a single parent. I was able to at least provide a significant help to our financial lives. That being said, dh and I have decided that it has become more of a burden than a benefit for me to continue to work outside the home.

I know this is a tough choice for many families. The reality is though sometimes it just does not pay to have the wife work when the kids are really small. The only time I think this is doable and worth it is when the wife has a major career like a doctor(this is just an example) or something that brings in a lot of money and is difficult to get back into with a big gap in the resume. That is my opinion on this matter.

There are lots of things you can do to bring in more cash and spend less while not "working" You are on the right track with the home cooked meals and selling the crafts. Time to clip coupons and sell some things on ebay could help as well. Would it be possible to babysit for a friend that still works?

Good luck in your new decision. Don't feel guilty, feel empowered.

Thank you, you always seem to be so upbeat! I am trying to focus on being grateful for the ability to do this, and for a dh willing to do the ot, and ODS willing to earn his own spending money, etc, I truly am very lucky. I really like the suggestion about baby sitting. I was just talking to a good friend about that the other day, and am looking into doing just that, and have a few possibilities already. Living in town in an easy central location with a fenced yard is definitely a plus! About the coupons, did you know Walmart will no longer take internet coupons. I was so mad. Last weekend DH and I were checking out with our 2 buggies of groceries - ok it was probably really 1 buggy of groceries and 1 of kids, but anywho, we go to check out and I hand the lady a big thick stack of coupons (atleast 20+ dollars worth) and she tells me though don't take internet coupons anymore, and sure enough the manager would not budge on the issue. Very frustrating since

Not working will be a bit of an adjustment, but it will be sooo worth it!

hello!! you know what? i see nothing wrong with having your son pay his own way. we are going to a carnival tomorrow and im having my kids pay for half of their wristbands. theyre not cheap-and we're not made of money. im sure your son understands the situation and doesnt mind paying his own way. it doesnt matter if youre working outside the home

I wouldn't feel guilty about telling your child that he can't do something unless he can pay for it.

Having been very lucky raising only one son, I was never in this boat.

I agree with everything that Norma said!

I have also just bought this book "The Tightwad Gazzete" and there are a lot of good ideas that makes being cheap more fun and game like.

Congrats on your new life I am envious!
