If its any consolation, it looks like your gypsy in the picture doesn't have any teeth at all so count your blessings lol! I hope she didn't drop a beer on her foot or that would be double trouble!
I don't think you are alone, something always comes up no matter who you are. It is one of the reasons I think the efund should be amped up if at all possible. $1000 will take care of some emergencies but not all of them.
Lets hope the gypsy has some good Karma coming your way like your daughter getting another nibble on a job or some such thing.
That gypsy in the photo looks like she's up to no good!!
Just another thought...if you at some point entertain the idea of getting the tooth pulled, I suggest you see what it would cost to do so WITHOUT using your insurance.
Ah Kate, well if you don't have the money for them, and something in life comes up, then it is a financial emergency.
BUT...if you have the money, they become just inconveniences.
Right now we are in a whirlwind of emergencies, car especially. DS ruined a clutch to the tune of $1200 and that was the last straw on my 167k mile Beemer - repair costs are killing me to the tune of over $600 a month and she now has to go. New cars do not have as many issues - so no emergencies for a while, just a regular payment instead (and so far it is a lot less than I have paid per month in repairs the last 12 months averaged.)
DD is just emergency after emergency this year - there are so many kid expenses in Senior year I want to scream - besides photos, invitations, cap and gown, there are sports fees, coaches gifts, banquets, travel fees, Scrubs for internship, NHS fees, prom tickets, prom dress, hair, shoes, flowers, all night party fees, College orientation fees, ..... Honestly when that child goes away to school one entire emergency category can go away as I have her on a college budget, with no car at school. If she needs anything else it is up to her to fund. But then there is DS...
I want to get to a place where it is not an emergency anymore, just an inconvenience.
Haha! I love your picture. It does seem that way sometimes, doesn't it! Especially when it comes to the dentist. I never get good news there it seems. I just recently had the same procedure done. I had an absess on a tooth that had previously had a root canal (of which I spent $2000 of my own money! - No insurance back then) so they had to take it out and now I need a dental implant or my tooth on top is going to come down and I'll need that one taken out too. I'm between a rock and a hard place. My insurance does not cover dental implants either and they are really expensive! But what I did find out is that I can wait a 6 months to a year before I need to decide. A year is time enough for me to save up. So I'm still unsure whether I want to have the implant or live without the tooth and eventually live without two teeth. I just don't know. But I'm young, only 31 and I think I should perhaps suck it up and get the implant. Maryanne told me something about mini implants, but I asked my dentist about them and he said that they were used for something else and not the huge molar that has to be replaced in my case. My advice, get all the information you can get so you can make the most educated decision and remember that when you're spending money on your teeth, it's an important expenditure. I mean, we all need to eat comfortably!
I'm afraid it's the first lower molar in my mouth, so it's right near the front -- so I really don't want to leave the gap or I will look like a Gypsy!

If this bump just came up after the fall, you might want to ask your regular medical insurance if it might be covered.

Thanks everyone, for the messages and advice.
