OMG! I got the job...

And guess what! He hired me on the spot!

We met and had lunch, talked about what got us both into the music world. Then we went over to the chapel (the whole campus is gorgeous and so peaceful). I played a simple choral piece for him first because that's all I had worked up at such short notice. He said that he loved the way I used the pedal. Then I played a Mozart Sonata and he called in another father so that he could hear me. I played a couple more things and then he had me sight read (play a piece that I've never seen before on the spot...I stink at this). He had me hash it out for a few minutes while he left me alone. Then he comes back and says...you did fine...and I was like, Really - I thought I did awful! But I was glad he stopped me when he did. Then we went down to his office and talked and he just blew me away!

He said that he was really impressed with me and that he could see that I had a light in my soul. He said that he had done a lot of research on accompanist's and had a bunch of interviews lined up but he was canceling them all. He felt that we had a connection and that sometimes you can't explain how things happen. He seemed really excited about working with me and he said that the college kids would really take to me since I am so young. He offered me $75 dollars an hour. Don't jump up and down yet....I'll only be playing for an hour or two a week, but still! I'd have to get 4 new piano students to equal what they are going to pay me in 1 hour!

I really think that God led me to this opportunity. The whole thing was kind of rushed and strange but I felt a peace about it that I've never felt with another audition. I'm excited to get to learn from the choir director (he went to the Westminster Abbey Choral school) and he's already said that he'll keep my limited choir in mind when he comes across music. He's just full of resources! I'm going to be doing a lot of practicing this summer though, that's for sure! He's already given me a few stand-by pieces. He'll give me his selections for the 1st semester in the beginning of August.

Basically, this is a huge thing for me. I'm breaking into the music world here. Being the accompanist for an 80 person choir from a prestigious college in our area will get my name out there for so much more, more accompanying work, more weddings, maybe more students. Who knows! I am truly excited about this and like I said before, I somehow think this was supposed to happen. It just felt right.

Cloud nine!!! That's where I am right now!
Abbie

Congratulations on getting the job.
Now you can see that your talent is worth a lot more than you were giving yourself credit for.
