HELLO EVERYONE,

I WENT TO SEE MY PS ON 1/12/09 AND THE NEWS WAS NOT GOOD. SHE INFORMED ME THAT SOME OF MY WOUNDS WERE TRYING TO OPEN UP. I ACTUALLY HAVE ONE THAT IS OPEN. BUT SHE TOLD ME WE COULD TURN THIS SITUATION AROUND IF I CONTINUE TO REALLY TREAT MYSELF AT HOME THIS WEEK. SHE GAVE ME SOME VERY STRICT INSTRUCTIONS ON WHAT TO DO AND I'M GOING TO DO MY BEST TO FOLLOW THROUGH. I GO BACK ON TUESDAY TO BE RE-EVALUATED AND SHE TOLD ME IF IT DIDN'T LOOK BETTER SHE WOULD BE SENDING ME THE WOUND CLINIC TO BE TREATED. BUT I'M OK I'M STILL REALLY HAPPY I DID THE SURGERY BUT I WISH I WERE DOING A LITTLE BETTER THAN THIS. IS THERE ANYONE ELSE ON THE BOARD THAT HAS HAD THE OPEN WOUND PROBLEM IF SO WHAT DID YOU HAVE TO DO AND DID IT GET BETTER?

I did have an open wound and it is scarey, but it should heal up if you follow your doctors instructions. I had to clean the wound twice daily and fill it in with Neosporin and keep it covered for 2 weeks. And it does take a while to close, but you should start to see it heal from the inside-out within the week. It probably took 2-3 weeks to really close, which seems like a long time, but the healing starts inside and once you can see that happening it takes a while. It did not leave the prettiest scar, but I really don't care and it has faded alot. Besides my pretty Victoria Secret bras cover the area.:)I had to make sure not to over use my arms out to the side, i.e. stretching the area. It happened I think around week 3 and my PS told me it was probably from over use. So it can't be said enough to really take it easy those first few weeks with moving, lifting, reaching, etc. Just be careful and good luck!!
Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Hi this is Betty OTR may 17,2007. I had a open wound in my left breast. It was a small hole and the ps had me pack it twice a day with 1/4 in gauze soaked in saline. i had to learn to use a q-tip to put it in the small opening. It took about 6 weeks for it to heal from the inside out. took me awhile to learn how to pack it i was so afraid i would hurt myself but i didn't. My only problem was with the left one. I had had 2 biospys on it and i always wondered if that wasn;t the reason i had so much trouble with it. It will heal but sometimes it will take time. We are all hear to help you get through this. I was so glad i found this board before i had my br done. I had a revision done on the left one last May. they found some scarred tissue in my right one so i have another mamagram coming up in march and see the ps again in april. Take care and we are all here to support you through this.
Sincerely, Betty

I had the same problem. I had a quarter sized open wound and it was also from overdoing it, lifting too much etc. I put my mind to really obeying my PS's limits and within a week it started to close up. This after me getting an emergency appt with him because there'd been some blood coming from the open wound and I was seriously freaked out. It turned out I'd just scratched myself on something, to cause the blood. 4 months post op, that spot still looks rough... it's still darker than the rest of my scars, which are lighter, but it's obviously healing now
