Come one come all, share with one another your progress and struggles. I'd like to ask all our posters and lurkers to check in today so we can see those numbers go up. We need to hear from everyone. There is strength in numbers. I know the new boards can be challenging but let's meet the challenge and keep our community vital.

DH and I took a vacation last week for our first anniversary. We went to NYC. It was more expensive than I planned, so May we will feel it, and we had to charge a couple of things, like our nice dinner in Times Square, but that just gives me more motivation to snowflake. Our next vacation is a week at his parent's cottage up North (that is northern Michigan) so it is free besides groceries, because we'll cook and hang out on the beach all day! I am getting used to frugal living, and DH is too, slowly but surely.

Have a great week everyone!

WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! I am so doing the happy dance today. I finally paid off a credit card! I didn't post for the longest time cuz I was kind of down in the dumps that things weren't moving quicker. Now I have the motivation to focus on the next one on the list!

Hope everyone has a good week and know that in time, it can be done!

Hmmm, I lurk a lot but haven't posted in forever. This week has actually been pretty good. For the first time in forever, our car loans were paid when they were due. Normally I end up paying them right before they go to 30 days. I am in a holding pattern right now and that is really frustrating me. I have a loan from my work that will be paid off next month and a couple of smaller bills that will also be gone by the end of May. Everything else, I'm just plugging away at. DH and I both make really good money but we have also got fairly high expenses. We live in an expensive area, two car loans, two kids in day care, etc. DH is also not helpful at all. Its hard to explain but I know if I ever want to get to where I want to be, I'm going to have to do it alone. Simply put, he has expensive habits/hobbies and a huge sense of entitlement (The "I work hard, therefore I deserve it" syndrome.). We are going to be moving in July/August. It will cost us more but has gotten to a point where it is necessary. The apartment complex we live in has changed a lot in the last three years and not really in a good way and we really need more space. That will be expensive but at the same time our daycare costs will drop and our car insurance rates should drop dramatically as well. When all is said and done, by the end of this year we should be down to just our car loans which will be a huge relief. Spending wise, I've decided that I am really going to target our grocery bills. I would like to get it down to about $50 a week plus diapers.

Well, here are the goals I posted for last week, and how I've done. Not all accomplished, but not bad either.

1. Call that high-rate card and lower my limit to $1000 and put it in the freezer for emergencies only >>>Card is in the freezer, but I haven't called yet. My statement was posted online today, I paid the remaining balance immediately, and I'm going to call AFTER I see that the payment has cleared.

2. Tweak the budget >>>Done. Still needs more tweaking, but I foresee that will be an ongoing process anyway.

3. Continue checking in with my school's financial aid office to see when they finally process my application for 2003-4 and figure new amounts into the budget. >>>At least they received my SAR and determined that my info is complete, but they don't have an amount for me yet. Bummer.

4. Continue apartment-hunting. What a pain. ;-) >>>Still looking, nothing good yet. The problem is I really can't afford any 2-br's in any decent apt complexes and I'm NOT moving us into a bad area so I can afford the rent =( I'm continually checking the local ads hoping for a private rental for part of a house, duplex etc.

I know I've been bad about checking in...mostly because there has been no new developments on my situation. Just chugging along.

Although...here is a small success...I paid off the Von Maur card. Woo Hoo!! Unfortunately, we are probably going to have to use it again to get DH some *real* clothes once he gets his license. The good thing is that it's a 0% card forever, so they don't charge any interest..it's like lay-away with being able to use your stuff. LOL!

On the downside, none of the other ones have been paid off and just seem to stay there. LOL!!

We are hanging in there and I'm hoping eventually we will see the light at the end of the tunnel but it's a *really* long tunnel right now.

Well, I posted earlier under general discussion so all can read about my progress there. To make it short here, I was really depressed, thought I had no one to turn to, confessed my financial problems to a friend and then to my sister and asked my sister for a loan. She wired me $1,000 friday morning. I paid some bills and bought some groceries, woo hoo!! No more Ramen Noodles!! I feel much better about my situation, although I am still a long way from being okay. Talking about my situation with my sister has helped though and it has given me the strength to continue looking for a second job and I am confident that I will have things under better control within a few months. Thanks for all of your support!! You all are helping me out greatly!! I appreciate it!

Spent a busy weekend working in the yard doing general cleanup and planting annuals. Spending was minimal. Only bucks spent were eating out Friday. My grocery shopping is tonight. I've been very frugal for the last couple of weeks. I still have $148 for food and payday is Friday.

It was an up and down week/weekend for me.

The good news today was that my cc balance was down over $400 from last month thanks to my news plan. That's the first drop in I don't know how long!

Bad news was that last week my boss retired, so I ended up spending a LOT of $$ on gifts, going out to lunch, etc. Plus my cc payment was 2 days late, so I got hit with a $35 fee. I'm signing up for online billpay so that doesn't happen again. UGH!

Overall I would say last week was a good week. We "snowflaked" nearly $650 towards our debt. That felt good. We went to a festival in town this weekend. We spent more than we probably "should" however, we got some really good deals on gift certificates during the "silent auction". For example, we paid $30 for a $65 value at the oil change place. So really we "saved" $35. I was able to get $119 refund from dentist. (See my other post under general discussions) On the down side, DH REALLY wanted to know our FICO scores. So, since he is in the mortgage biz, he pulled the report and was deeply sadden to see how low they are. I told him that even though we are paying extra, we still have A LOT of debt. He trading in a truck in Feb and bought a new motorcycle just last month (another $10K) not to mention all of the inquires from the insurance company. And we still have some yucky stuff lingering in our history. Sorry this is so long, whew, I feel much better now that I've checked in. Have a great week!!
