I've been lurking on these boards for a few months now. I am not as greatly in debt as a lot of other people here, but badly enough that I have no fall back for emergencies, no savings

Welcome! It always feels so good to make that commitment to get started and especially to "say it out loud" by posting! And I love that you find our board to be among the best. That would have been my vote, of course, but it's nice to be internationally recognized, LOL!

I hope you'll be able to join in often and that you find much success. It's great to have you here!

Well Zara, lets start a blizzard in London! Snowflakes come on.

No matter where you are or when, money has been an issue since the begining of time. Have money, you have more power.

I know DH would probably go back to contracting in IT work if we had money and no debt. But he is always concerned about the next contract and in the economy he does not want to risk being down for a long period of time.

If we had money we could get a business off the ground that does have good potential.

If we did not have debt, we would see more of what we earn.

We are all in this together and I would really like to hear what your perspectives are of Americans use of money from across the pond, if you would care to share.

Welcome. You are certainly in the right place.

Paying off debt and budgeting is a fabulous start. You are starting to tell your money where to go. An emergency fund is very important so I am glad to see you have started that. It is very nice your debt is not large and you are being proactive. Make sure you start your savings goals when you are finished with the debt.

A down payment for a house is a fantastic goal!!

Welcome to the boards, don't worry about where you live, most of us here are in debt whether we pay it off in pounds or dollars, (or loonies in my case)
