Having a Good Weekend?

Is everyone having a good weekend? What are you doing to make it so good-& if not, what is happening to make it so?

It is sunny here now-after rain, rain & more rain-we are actually having sunshine now.I can hear Mike working on Adam's trail-the chain saw & his "modified" weed-whacker (we call it "The Widow Maker"-so I really don't think I should describe what he's done to it!)to cut away trees that are too close-although he has been carefully transplanting the ones he can.The trail for the Mule has to be wider & more gradually sloped than the one for the snowmobile-last weekend, Adam got down to the waterfront-but I guess it was a tight fit at times.

My plans are to work on some sewing projects.I finished up a second sundress for each of Susan's girls-but I must make some receiving blankets & a hooded towel for a baby shower.I suddenly realized that it is less than 2 weeks-I am going to be away for 4 days next weekend, & the day after I return from that-my friend Kathy is coming to visit for a few days. I haven't quite reached "panic-point", but almost! We (Mom & I)bought the mom-to-be all sorts of useful things-but I was to "top them off" with these blankets & a towel.I also have to prepare my knitting bag for next weekend's trip.

What are you doing where you are? We do have leaves coming out on our trees-finally.No lilacs yet-but the daffodils are beautiful & the trilliums are almost ready to "pop". Spring is happening in Eastern Ontario-HURRAH!I can still see the lake from the house-one of the first things to show that summer is imminent is that the trees get enough leaves that I cannot see the water from our deck, but that is ok-means the people on the lake (in their boats) can't see me either!

Reason why I haven't posted much is I've been very busy spending my weekends with paperwork, shopping for stuff for ds's room & next weekend cleaning. DS is coming home from college May 10th & I've been trying to get everything done by that date.

Trust me, I'll be exhausted by May 9th & I work F/T which doesn't help much.

It has been pretty nice. Friday night DH and I went to some friends' house for dinner. Yesterday morning I went to the gym and then DD and I went to the co-op to do our monthly bulk - other stuff- shopping. I spent some time on the phone with a colleague who told me that she was fired on Friday. Wow - what a shock! Just goes to show that you can't disagree with some bosses and expect to keep your job. Last night DH and I went to a farewell party for a friend of ours who is moving back to the mid-west...had enough of California, I think. He has family back there and misses them. Today DD and I went shopping, first for my 100yo MIL, who needed some new pants and nightgowns, and then DD got some clothes for summer. After that we went to our local craft store and she got some yarn for a scarf for her Dad's BD and an afghan for her boyfriend...I'm hip deep in an afghan for DS's BD in June, so she and I will be doing some tandem knitting. Tonight, DD has to work, but DS and DD's BF will be coming to dinner - making a seafood fettucine and a salad...nice way to end the week-end.

Had a good weekend here too. Saturday morning Dh and I went to
his Mum and Dad's..they live just down the road. DD and SIl came
with Emily and then DS and Gf turned up. We sat outside, as it was
a beautiful morning. Then DH and DD went to watch a football match
and we all met up again at 5.30pm after the match at a local
carvery for a meal.
Sunday morning we all went out for breakfast and then DH and I
brought Emily back home with us while DD and SIL went into town
to do some shopping. A nice relaxing (and eating) weekend.

It sounds positively lovely, Diane :-) Now I assume that I'm not alone on this board to want to ask you...what is a "carvery"? I am thinking it's a restaurant that possibly specializes in serving beef? That's my guess - "carve" pertaining to meat, all relating to a restaurant? Am I right in my guess?

Somehow I missed that Amy had found a job, that's great. What type of work will she be doing? Wasn't she in retail before? What will she be doing for childcare? Will you be assuming some or all of it?

My weekend was fine I guess. It started off poorly on Friday late afternoon with a run-in with my next door neighbor who I do not particularly like. That kind of soured the weekend and I had trouble shaking it off.

Let's see, what did we do? On Sat I worked in the garden in the morning, watering and deadheading. Dd came by in the afternoon to pick up some stuff so got a brief visit with her. Dh had to work from 5am to 10 or 11am, then went for a run after he got home so he was content to sit in a chair and read (more like nap!) all afternoon. At 4:45pm dh's parents called, they were at his sister's house about 45 minutes away all alone because everybody had gone to the baseball game (ball park is about 10 minutes from my house). So we drove up there to visit with them and picked up some dinner for all of us on the way north.

The plan for Sunday morning was a bike ride but dh wanted to sleep in after several mornings of 5am starts, so I let him. I had what I thought was a problem with my bike. After dh was up we resolved it but by then it was too late to start a long ride. So I weeded in the front for a couple of hours then cleaned up. We went to a potluck dinner at a friend's house around 4:30 and that was fun. The fellow is a semi-pro astronomer, he has a huge fancy telescope and we had hoped to see some stars after dark but the marine layer clouds came in so no visibility.

Dh and I got home early enough from the dinner to watch a movie...I got a discount card from Blockbuster, all movies $1.99 for the month of April (they are normally $4.29) so I have really been taking advantage of it and have rented about a dozen movies this month. We watched "Volver" with Penelope Cruz on Sunday night, on Friday night we watched an older movie called "Junebug". Tonight will be "The History Boys" because its a 2-day rental, and I have enough "1 week" rentals to keep us busy every night for at least a week!

I did get in a long bike ride this morning, 28 miles/2 hours, so that was good. Except I forgot to eat after I got home. Evidently one should eat protein within 30 minutes of strenuous/extended exercise. Strenuous exercise takes away my appetite so I don't think to eat. Usually I take a meal replacement bar with me but today I came home and got involved in some paperwork then finally got into the shower and eventually started feeling ill, couldn't figure out what was going on! Then I remembered I hadn't eaten so I ate and drank a lot of water also, as I realized I was probably somewhat dehydrated too. It took a couple of hours to start feeling better, hopefully I won't make that mistake again.

That's it for my weekend and Monday.

Sorry Shirley I forget that maybe you don't always know what I'm talking
about!! lol. Yes a carvery is a restaurant where you get a plate and choose
your meat (the chef carves it in front of you) and then you help yourself
to all the stuffing, yorkshire puddings, vegetables and gravy that you want.
It's very handy when we take Emily, who is 2, because we just pile our plates
high and then get a plate and give a bit of everything to her instead of
having to buy a meal. Well done Shirley...good guessing!! lol

Thanks, Diane :-) Funny (though not surprising) that we have different names for things here and there. I can't say we have restaurants that have any particular name for this sort of food service, though in some hotels and even some restaurants that serve buffet style meals, that is how roast beef is served. Mmmmmm sounds delicious though...yorkshire puddings...mmmmmm!
