Can you wear your daughter's clothes?

I just realized that I have a whole closet of clothes at my disposal. I optimistically approached DD closet and tried on a few things. After hearing some seams tear, I realized a few things.

1. I looked really silly in DD's "Hello Kitty" shirt
and 2. I am just too fat for her clothes.

What happened, I used to be a size 6? (I get hand me downs from MY mom.) I can wear some of DD's bigger T-shirts, but sadly, she has most of those with her. No "new" clothes for me. Does anyone else try to steal clothes from their offspring?

Ditto to "Are you kidding?" I am alas much 'heftier' than my dd. Now she's not what you might call fat but she does have a few pounds extra which makes her curvier and as she recently told me, "which boys seem to like" (!) But she and I are different builds anyway.

Anyway, I've got way too much extra poundage on this old bod' and we are quite a few sizes apart. Besides, I would never want to wear those ridiculously low cut jeans of hers. My dd wears longer tops so her midriff isn't exposed but unfortunately (to my mind anyway) she's always got to give her waistband a tug in the back when she gets up from sitting...Otherwise, she'd be walking around with her pants halfway down her you-know-what!

A few years ago she tried on my wedding dress. That is when I realized that we are built differently. She's got way wider shoulders than I did at that age. The dress couldn't be zipped up her back because of that. She is bigger in the bust than I was at that age. And she's taller than I am.

So no, I cannot and do not even want to wear what she owns in clothing. Though, I have to admit, I do wish I could be that small and that young when we are out shopping together. I think some of the fashions for young people are so interesting and cute! I noticed though that dd and I do not have all the same likes in clothing styles. I will look at things on the rack with clothing for her age and say, "Isn't this cute?" And she may kind of agree but she generally doesn't show any interest in it beyond that.

Oh My-such images you ladies bring to my mind.NOT pretty ones...belly fat hanging over jean waistbands?ripping seams in t-shirts?LOL

Well, my dd's are older than yours-Karen has had 3 babies & she is still slimmer than I.Susan went through menopause at 15 (Premature Ovarian Failure it is called)-& for awhile her body went the way of most post-menopausal women, rounder & "more padded".But she decided she was too young for that-& did an excellent job of losing the weight-& keeping it off.Do I sound jealous?-I am! I can lose it-but only temporarily. But then again, I lose my motivation & let it return-bringing extra pounds with it(friends-I call it "bringing friends along")-& they all take up stations along my hips, thighs & waist. But then again I am not motivated to run marathons or do the things she does to keep her weight down.

As for shopping with them-well, not a fun time especially.I have done it-but they just roll their eyes at my choices & that is the things they LIKE!(they groan & complain loudly when I pick out something totally unsuitable in their mind!)Actually, the few times we have shopped together(remembering they both live hours from me)-it has been fun but only because I like to help them pick out things for themselves...& I just like being with them.

I'm not saying I would actually wear them in public! I take one look at myself and laugh. Its the old idea of still thinking and feeling young, and trying on her clothes make me remember that I looked almost as good as she does now, many years ago.

Add another "no way" to the list! First off, the size difference. Dd is 2 inches taller than me and probably 25 pounds lighter, and I am carrying a lot of that excess on my hips thighs and belly--so I wouldn't be able to fit into her jeans. Some of her tops are large and she cinches them at the waist with a wide belt, I suppose I could fit into those tops but they wouldn't look so cute on me. Then there is the style. I don't know how to describe dd's look, but most of her clothes are things I wouldn't wear anyway. She pulls them off well, and they are not exactly a "young" look, more of a punk-tinged look I guess. I couldn't begin to choose clothes for her these days.

I do have some low-rise jeans. I do not get them very tight because I WILL NOT go out with a "muffin top" appearance. They actually do not fit me low on the hips. Since they are not tight they sometimes feel like they are falling down. I wear a very short rise and most traditionally cut women's pants do not fit me well. If they fit my hips they are too tight in the waist, if they fit my waist they are flapping on my hips and butt. There is only about 2 inches from the bottom of my ribs to the top of my hip bones so there is no place for a waist to curve in, even when I was skinny I did not have a nipped in waist but rather a straight boyish figure. Right now I have some curves because of the excess baggage, unfortunately some of them are not where padding is desired like on the belly!! I get the best fit in men's jeans, good old Levi's 505s!

Good question Charla, my laugh for the day!

I know what you mean about low-cut jeans. They always feel like they are falling down. There was a time when that's all I could find in stores. I hated "peg leg" jeans, they were the only ones I could find that weren't low rise. So I'd get them big and take darts in the waist. Now dd tells me that bells are going out of style (again).

I would be very SHocked if I could wear my daughters clothes! She is a size 4 Nope not me I couldn't fit in to that size when I was 12 years old!

I am too fat also! I have been trying to diet but it's so hard! I have lost 7 pounds but it's taking me so long to do that!

I look at my daughters and feel so fat! I don't think I would ever get down to there size at all!

LOL, Low rise....LOL rolling on the floor,,, If My 19 yr old 5ft 1in or I 5ft 3in put on Low Riders the moon would be rising fast if you know what I mean...LOL Some clothes can fit either one of us 3x plus she takes a lot of my clothes if she likes them, I'm cool with that it is hard to find any thing really stylish in our size, I guess my favorite place to shop for Bargains is Ross and I often go with her to hunt for great bargains...sometimes you can find my other dd there to but, she is over 30yro 5ft 5in and size 5 -7 is her size and I don't think we even share the same hat size,......No Low riders here...:-)...Linda
