Time to have an on-line Koffee-Klatch-let's hear from everyone who can join us...

Janet-enjoy your visit & one-on-one time with Amy.Who is minding her kids & Noe while you do this? How long is she going to be taking the Phlebotomy course?Hopefully you can get Noe the transfusion he so desperately needs sooner, rather than later.(Adam used to do the same thing-he'd show them where to give him the IV or how to do the venapuncture)

DianeX-enjoy your holiday-not quite close enough for me to scoot over & visit over a coffee too.

Diane-glad to hear that Nino is working out so well-sounds like he is the dog meant to be in your home for sure.A lucky dog indeed.

Sue-how are you & dh?Is the rash still there? How are his burns healing?

Susiegail-I cannot imagine sciatica that excruciatingly bad. They do prescribe Demerol tablets-maybe only a small number-but certainly a good thing to have on hand, I'd think under the circumstances.

Kathy-good luck with the hunt to find a nice place to retire to, somewhere that will allow you the luxury of a roof over your head & food on the table too?

Elspeth-you are coming closer to me, Philly isn't THAT far away, but certainly not close enough that I can meet up with you & dh-unfortunately.So when you are in your hotel, enjoy a sip of coffee & think of us just a bit further north & a bit further east.I'd say pedal on over-but probably just a bit too far for that!(LOL)

Charla-how is it going with dd?Did she submit her final drawings for that contest? Is she going to be home again soon? And how is your mother managing in the new residence?

Shirley-is enjoying the very best of Spring that Calgary has to offer, I am sure!

Linda-I lose track of where you are-at the lake with Bill or in Anaheim with the girls & the grandchildren.I suspect we will soon be knowing you as "Mother of Danyell-the famous artist".

Who did I miss?As "the old lady of the board"I retain the right to have a "senior's moment" & forget someone.I did this post about an hour ago & iVillage lost it!So I had a "senior's tantrum" before trying it again!

As for an update from us?we are doing ok.Susan is in China, & hoping to meet Jonathan tomorrow.(they have about 24 hours in Beijing before going on to Inner Mongolia where he is.Hopefully 24 hours to sleep!)Adam's back pain seems to need more attention-so that will be job #1 for Monday-to get hold of his Palliative Care dr.He doesn't say it hurts more-it is a question of degree after all-but when bug bites or paper cuts become the end of the world-it is time we got him something more.We have beautiful weather today-so I intend to spend what I can of it, enjoying it because I understand the rains & cooler weather are coming for a few days.

So join my little newsgathering moment here-let the rest of us know how you are doing.

Hello all,

Well, yesterday was a busy day with Susanne in town to get her little cat from the vet hospital where she (Sophie the cat) was there for the previous week after treatment for hyperthyroidism (having received radioactive iodine, or whatever it is they put in for the thyroid?). Susanne was hoping to save wear and tear on her ancient Jeep and get a ride into the city with a friend, but no one was able to oblige her this way. And so while she did have to drive herself in from Canmore, I agreed to help her out by doing the driving for her with my car in the city itself, as she's not a confident driver on Calgary streets (not being an experienced driver for a lot of years as it so happens). We had a good day doing a few errands, and a long leisurely lunch and talk, and then getting Sophie at the end of the afternoon. Sophie is doing well and no doubt is now happiest to be home again.

We've been having super weather this week. Today is again nice and sunny and warm...close to being 'hot' by the time the afternoon rolls around, but not humid and not unbearably hot.

I looked into joining a Printmakers Society here in the city. Well, I'm hedging around a bit. Not sure to 'jump in' so to speak into getting involved with creating prints again i.e woodcut printing, or metal plate printing as in etchings. It's a technique I've mostly forgotten how to do and so need some sort of instruction to re-learn again how to do it. It may be possible that a couple of the members might be interested in teaching me - but I was also wondering if I could take a course at the university or art college (though the latter would be in the fall, at this point). I met with the president of the society this week and she was very encouraging and welcoming. If I pay my dues and join, I could attend the Annual General Meeting for the society this mid-June and which is also an annual social gathering in the form of a small party, even. So I would meet members there. However, the society's purpose is mostly to rent out the studio space to its members and only one person at a time gets to use the printing studio facilities which seems rather 'lonely' - for I was hoping to meet up with a new community of artist printmakers! Well, I will have to decide - joining wouldn't cost me much...but getting truly involved with printmaking again will cost a lot more in supplies and tutoring. The question is, am I just being 'chicken' or am I really wanting to do this? Sigh...

Well, that's the latest with me, pretty much. Other than doing the usual, and today I must plant a few annual flowers that I didn't get to plant yet. Our community is having an annual community-wide garage sale. I am always curious to see what's for sale...but have to admit, that rarely do I see and want much of anything people are selling.

Keep well, everyone!

Thank You for asking Nora, Tom is healing nice and my spots are going away! BUT I just now came down with a cold. I am cold and under the covers while typing! So I hope after this we are done! Tom has to go back to the doctors June 14, hopefully we will be better after that as we have planes to fly out to our daughters in Oregon June 19. That is what is going on here! Oh yes we got some rain which we really needed it!

Off to the couch I go! Sue

"Mother of Danyell - the famous artist".....LOL She just has fun with it! I know painting and drawing relieves stress I my self don't think it would relax me but, she just seems to have a vision of what she wants to do and sets down and does it.. OH may be I just lack the talent...LOL

I'm still at the lake... I'm recuperating I had the Grand Kids for 6 days and it took two days to rest up after they went home and another to days to catch up on my house work...

I now got Satellite Internet Friday so now my computer runs a lot faster and does so many more things,, it will be a lot of work but, I must go through 1000's of pictures and get them in better order this is something I like to do! but I just have about 8 years of pictures to deal with everything runs a lot faster to bad it doesn't make me type faster or spell better,,,,LOL

How are You and Mike and Adam doing? You must let us know about the home care visit on Monday,,,Hugs...Linda

Greetings from Philadelphia! Yes Nora, I am getting closer to you but still not close enough to meet for coffee!

Saturday was travel ALL day. We got into our hotel about 8:30pm then went to a pub/restaurant for a very good dinner at a place that I stumbled across on the gophila.com website. Sunday Enrique was in a session all day so I was on my own. I spent several hours at the wonderful Museum of Art then attempted to visit a historical house but it was closed. At that point the rain started in earnest so I made my way back to the hotel, meeting up with Enrique on the way. We have to figure out where to go for dinner tonight--decisions decisions!

It sounds like everybody is doing well. Have a good Monday!

Update! As for your post re: retirement, we have our itinerary settled. Leaving July 17 for Seattle. 4 days in Seattle, then driving down the Oregon Coast (stopping in Seaside, then Bandon). Driving north to Portland, then Seattle. Flying back home July 31st. Yes, I plan to visit some real estate agencies to get questions answered.

Big News Announcement - I transferred from my old store to another store. I work for Staples & it does pay to have connections in management. I was at the old store 7 yrs. & it was an ideal location - 7 min. from my house (5 min. if I hit all the green traffic lights). It was also close to my kids high school & there were emergencies where I had to leave in the middle of my shift to take care of the kids. Unfortunately, the current manager is not retail material (I'll leave it at that) & with my knowledge/experience I complained to the higher ups (thankfully they know me & listened) & it was beginning to backfire i.e. my manager wanted to get rid of me. I knew it wouldn't be easy to fire me since I'm full time instead of part time & I can easily complain to Human Resources. So in the end, I picked the store I wanted to transfer to & got it. I've worked with 2 out of the 3 managers there, so they know me quite well. I thought of starting someplace else, but my colleagues thought I was nuts losing all my benefits & vacation time. So I started at the new store yesterday. I just hope everything works out & I'll be happy there. The only negative I will have is spending more money in gas, but I'm not complaining because I know there are thousands of Americans spending more money in gas than I am. From my 1st day yesterday, I already noticed how much better this store is managed compared to my previous store. What a difference! Corporate headquarters of Staples should be proud of this store & another store nearby. Both are properly managed. Well folks, wish me luck.

Kathy, that's great that you were able to transfer to another Staples store...sounds like an ideal solution to the problem and I guess the only down side is the extra travel, but all else makes up for that, I'm sure. You must be looking forward to your upcoming trip. I'd sure like to go somewhere but we haven't got big plans for the summer yet. So far DH suggested we make a short trip to see my sister and bil in B.C. All depends on their schedule - if they are home at the time, mostly. This would be for our holiday weekend of July 1st.

It's a busy week for me here, with just cleaning up around here and getting set for going to Canmore for the art festival that I'm helping Susanne with. We will set up her studio for the open studio tour - hanging up a lot of her newer pieces of art work/drawings/photographs. I'm leaving here Thursday but the only bus company that goes to Canmore from Calgary very inconveniently supplies one bus only in the morning - at 7:15 a.m.! And then the next one is 1:15 p.m.! Ideally to be there in the morning would be good, but I really would have preferred a slightly later bus. Sigh. So I have to decide what's the best choice - though so far I am leaning to the earlier one so as to have the greater amount of time to help Susanne on Thursday and also Friday if we need the Friday as well.

So I'm just taking care of business here before I go on Thursday.

We have been having sunny and fairly hot weather lately but we are hoping for those showers and rain they keep forecasting. The thing is, with showers, you never know where those clouds will drop their rain. We've seen dark rain clouds on the western horizon move ever closer to the city and then veer off towards the north so that we've not got any rain in our area of the city. And we are needing rain now...we always like it if we don't have to water the lawn! Definitely we are to have rain by tomorrow I hear and the temperature too will dip down quite a lot lower.

Good luck at the new job, Kathy!

Thanks for asking. DD won't know if she wins the contest till August 25th. The contest people are flying her to LA for an art work shopwith some famous people (so I'm told) the week of August 19th. She came home for a short visit on Saturday--just for the day. It was weird--almost surreal--to have her visit for such a short time.

The mom saga continues. Mom is still at her home. The move was postponed till the end of the month, since my sister made more of a crisis out of it than it was. Mom said that she would go and try it out, just to make my sister happy, but only for 2 months. This is would be easy task, since she would have to move her own furniture 100 miles and back. Today she announced that she wasn't going at all. I think I'm glad, actually. In my heart I never did feel that she needed to go at this time. She only had that one short episode of addle brain-ness, and then she still knew what to do, she pushed button on her "Lifeline" necklace thing that she wears. She cooks her own meals makes, takes her own showers and even drives to the beauty parlor, etc. She gets along pretty well. I think mom will go willingly to assisted living when its time.

Hugs Charla, this has to have been a difficult time for you.I am glad your mother is doing better-sounds like she is doing MUCH better to be able to return to her own home.

And having an adult child return home for such a short visit IS strange-but I am guessing that it is something you will become accustomed to.(please note-I didn't say you would learn to like it!)
