Linda, I will be praying for you and all affected by these fires.
Linda, I have been thinking of you since early afternoon when I first heard about the fires. I looked at a map and saw that you are about 10 miles north of the Witch fire so its unlikely that it would head towards you but still I'm worried for you. We were out of town during the Cedar fire so I had not experienced the unease that I am feeling here, even though I am many miles away from it. The winds are so strong and unpredicable...
I am praying tonight for you and Bill and all of the people being affected by these fires tonight. Please continue to keep us posted about your well-being.

Adding my prayers to everyone else's, Linda.I heard about the fires on this morning's news & immediately thought of our California friends-especially you,in the hills, Linda.
I hope things settle down-the winds die down & maybe a good soaking of rain to help the firefighters.
Good Luck, Linda-let us know how you are doing.
Nora
Hugs, Linda. I heard about the fires too, but wasn't sure where they were located on the map. I hope you can sit tight and that the fires don't blow your way. I will keep you and all those people affected by the fires (and those like you who fear they might) in my prayers. Please keep us posted, for sure.

Linda, how are you doing?
Ladies, I will attempt to update you a bit in case we don't hear from Linda. Power is out to many households out her way so she may be fine but unable to get online. 2 more fires started overnight near (~10 miles away) to Linda but both are west of where she lives, and the winds are blowing towards the west and southwest so they would not be heading towards her home. However the roads out from where she lives have been impacted to the west and south so I think that east towards the desert is the only way for her to leave, if they want or need to do so.
Where I live the winds are calm or light and the humidity is 16%. The sky is hazy, the smell of smoke is present and there is a light coating of ash on everything. If you go outside for a few minutes your eyes start burning, the air quality is very poor. About 20 miles northeast the winds are in the 30-60 mph range with occasional stronger gusts, and the humidity there is probably 5%. They expect these conditions to last at least until sometime Wednesday. And no rain in sight for weeks.
We could really use your prayers...a miracle would be welcome about now!
Omgosh, sounds so frightening. Please do keep us updated Elspeth if Linda is unable to.
What a dreadful thing to be happening - hope you continue to be safe. Here in San Francisco I remarked to Michael this morning that the heat and the high winds we are experiencing are so not what we ever have...it's the 17th anniversary of our tragic Oakland Hills fire - we are definitely having a northern CA version of the Santa Ana winds...sending Ps and PTs -

"I'm wondering if evacuation just as a precaution versus "GET OUT NOW" wouldn't be a good idea." In fact, that is happening. The last I heard (15 mins ago?) they have ordered evacuation of 250,000 people, many of them preventative. I'm sure that number includes the thousands from yesterday but today there is a large area being evacuated that isn't (as far as I know) in imminent danger but is in the projected path. They learned a lot from the fires of 4 yrs ago about just how quickly the wind moves these fires. They have been using computer-generated "reverse 911" calls to warn people to prepare, and to give the actual evac. order. All of the local TV stations have pre-empted regular programming for non-stop fire news including road closures, emergency shelters etc--they are using the media to keep people informed because things are changing so fast. They are asking everybody to just stay indoors, off the roads and out of the bad air. Don't use cell phones, to leave the bands available for emergency calls.
Even though I am not near the fires (and there are 7 or 8 different ones burning in SD County) I am nervous because we have an old shake roof, with the low humidity any little ember could ignite. And the majority of the fire fighters from the city are in the areas of the wildfires leaving basically a skeleton crew in the city proper--and this is a big city in terms of miles. (They are expecting hundreds of firefighters and trucks from outside of the county to arrive later today). I've been thinking about what I would need to take in case of an evacuation...besides the usual birth certificate and photos and insurance policies and medications, what about the computer and flash drives? If *I* am feeling this vulnerable I can't imagine how our poor Linda must feel. Maybe they decided to just go up to Anaheim until its all over?
We were told that the wind might change, so tonight they are expecting a monitory evacuation
Definitely sending prayers your way, Linda.
