Anyone else REALLY tired?

Hi,

I am 18 weeks at this point and am so darn tired. I don't remember feeling this way with my first pregnancy and that was only 2 years ago (of course I was a spring chicken at 40;). I know I have a 2 year old that I run after but my DH helps a lot and he is a really good sleeper so I don't really have any excuse. I have lost the ability to sleep in and by the end of the day I just want to collapse! I take a iron pill so I don't thing it is that but will check with my OB on Wednesday when I see him. I have pretty much been a lurker lately on here b/c I don't seem to have the energy to keep up with the board. I am hopeless at taking naps. Hows everyone else feeling? Please don't tell me its just age!!!! xx

Sweetie, I'm tired all the time and I'm not even pregnant! :-) For me, I think it's my age.

For you, I'd say being 18 weeks pregnant and looking after a little toddler is good reason to be tired! Sounds normal to me!

Hi Linda,

I'm 43 and 30 weeks pg and I've been tired a lot too. I was found to be slightly anemic and have been taking an iron supplement which seems to help a little. I don't have any young children, my girls are teenagers. I don't think I would have the energy to take care of a toddler also! Sometimes when I come home from work I take a short nap and that seems to help. I have my girls help out around the house a lot more now since I just can't do it all anymore. I actually felt worse in my first trimester, I was a lot more tired then. I think because of our age it's normal though.

OMG YES!!!!!! I'm 7wks and have been more EXHAUSTED for the last month than I've ever been in my life -- not even when I was working full time and going to law school at night was I this tired! No amount of sleep makes a difference either.

I have never been so tired in my life. I had a short renewal of energy at 14 wks, but it was gone by 19 weeks. A couple of weeks ago, I was so tired that I felt like I needed a nap after my morning shower. I'm 31 weeks, and am having a little burst of energy now, but I think its cause I know I'm on the home stretch.

18 weeks is when I first found out I was anemic and the iron helped some, but I am still slightly anemic now and nothing I take helps.

Hi Michelle,

Thanks for your reply. I have been anemic from time to time in my life so I will check that out. My DH who really helps is gone for 10 days and oddly enough I seem to have more energy (maybe because I _have_ to). You must be getting excited--not too long to go! xx

Hi Carole,

I have had the same experience--I do have bursts of energy and think "finally, it has gone away" and then presto, I am so tired I want to pass out. I am so happy though--with life in general so I find it frustrating to not have more pep....At least my 2 year old has enough energy for 10 and it does inspire me!!!! xx

I'm just the opposite.

After the initial first trimester tiredness, I've had far more energy than I normally would in a nonpregnant state. I've even had insomnia for about half the pregnancy, and it doesn't really affect me during the day. It's very strange.
