testing for gestational diabetes...

I'm 40, and 18wks. At my last prenatal appt last week there was sugar in my urine so dr. sent me for g/d testing. I had no problems with my first 2 pregnancies, but they were 17 & 15 yrs ago, and I am definitely carrying more weight now :s
I'm nervous about the outcome, and what this is going to mean if test is positive. Anyone have any advice or recommendations?
Thanks
Andrea

I had ges. diabetes with my daughter, and it sounds more scary than it is. Basically all it means is that your body isn't processing the insulin to keep your blood sugar down. Most women can keep it controlled by changing their diet - balanced meals, lower carbs and sugar, eat protein and fat when you eat a starch. (So if you have an apple, eat some peanut butter with it.)

In my case, diet wasn't quite enough, so I took a shot of insulin at night. The needle was really tiny and it didn't hurt much at all. Don;t stress over it - it is manageable. Actually, with the change in diet, I felt fantastic and gained less weight!
