didn't get the extra testing?

I'm 40 and chose not to have any of the extra testing done because in the end, it wouldn't have made a difference. I am having issues with depression (that aren't new, but seem worse these days especially with no meds), and I am finding myself worrying all the time about whether or not everything is ok. I had my 20 wk ultrasound last week, and will see the doctor on the 4th, but right now I'm just stressed out.
Anyone else going through this?

I opted not to have any testing done either, just the two level II ultrasounds at 12 wks. and 20 wks, even though based on those and my bloodwork my risk for Downs is 1 in 40. I was OK with that up until a few weeks ago. I'm 35 wks. and getting close to my due date so I'm really starting to worry and wonder if my baby is alright. But problems and abnormalities can happen at any age. On the Oct 07 EC board there is a young girl (I think she around 18 or 19) who just lost her baby to Potters syndrome. Most babies with Down syndrome are born to younger mothers. Worrying and being stressed out all the time isn't good for you or your baby. Aren't there any meds that are safe for you to take now? Did you get the results of your u/s? They can usually tell if the baby is healthy based on the u/s, especially the 20 wk. one. I know that's what they told me at mine, but of course they can't see everything. Try not to worry too much!

I want you to breath and relax.

Stop worrying so much, I am only having U/S and some blood work and the rest is left up to god, I will love my baby no matter what!

think on the positives of things. soon you will have a beatuful baby who will love you so unconditionally and look into your eyes with such adoring giggles. That sweet laughter that only a baby can produce. The joy of watching daddy change the smelliest diaper in the world and watching him gag.. then get pee'd on because he wasnt quick enough.. LOL

You said you are depressed, have you checked out natural foods and vitamins that can help with depression, there has to be natural herbs and foods that can help reduce depression while you are off your meds. you should look into this, talk to your doctor about it, or the nutritionist if your doctor has one.

Good luck!!!
and remember we are here for you... if you need to talk!

hugs

No, I haven't gotten the results yet from my 20 wk u/s...my appt is Tues, so I guess I'm both getting anxious and nervous about that. I really think this has more to do with the depression than anything else. I am waiting right now for the person from Mental Health to call me back, but I really don't know about meds. I'm hoping I can make it until after baby is born. I'm just not comfortable taking anything while pregnant, and although it may help, it might just have the opposite effect and make me worry more about the baby....I guess I'll just have to wait till I see someone to decide.
But thanks for the support....its appreciated!
Andrea

Hi, Just want to tell you that I am 40 and pregnant with my 4th. My fist was child born when I was 31 with some birth defects that we never would have found without prenatal testing. We too, would never have done anything about it even though the option was presented to us by the doctors, but I feel that knowing ahead of time gave us several months of preparation before the birth to have a plan, know what we were dealing with, and receive contiual care during the remainder of my pregnancy. If we had not found out, my daughter would have been born at our local hospital and then would have needed to be flown to another hospital that could better handle her problem and give her the surgery she needed. I would have had to remain at the local hospital until I was discharged while my daughter and husband left by helicopter. By knowing ahead of time, I was able to deliver at the other hospital and be with my daughter during all of her procedures.
I received prenatal testing during both of my other pregancies as a precaution and will with this pregancy as well. Good luck!!
