Hi, I am 41 and have had a completely uncomplicated first pregnancy but at my 36 week appt today I was set up for twice weekly fetal monitoring at the hospital for the remainder of my pregnancy.

I was nearly 41 when my first baby was born and my doctor didnt do anything different with me from his other clients. He didnt see why I should be treated differently - in fact, my pregnancy was more troublefree that most of his younger clients. He would only have done extra monitoring if he had seen signs of distress, a weak heartbeat, etc.

I would say that there's nothing wrong with getting extra monitoring, but dont let it make you fear that you are necessarily at higher risk.

yes I had the twice weekly NST for the last 8 weeks of an uncomplicated pregnancy at age 41, but it gave me peace of mind even though it was a pain in the butt.
