Baby Essentials

I sent my hubby a list of things I absolutely, positively want to have on hand before baby gets here. I'm sure there are other items equally as important and/or necessary for other moms to have, so I was wondering what they are. Having two young girls already, I have some things; other things we've chosen to go without. We're not using a crib (didn't use one with our two year old) and we may or may not buy a swing. Either way, even if I decide I want one, it's not something I feel I MUST HAVE before his arrival. So here's my list (it doesn't include some obvious things like infant car seat, stroller, onesies/clothing, etc.):

- 5 Adiri Natural Nurser bottles (I've done my research and based on what I've read and heard, they're clearly the next best thing to the breast. They've gotten great reviews by Moms everywhere -- aside from women claiming they leak, something I can live with). I'm hoping Dad and others will be able to feed Baby Boy more frequently than the girls were fed by others; they wanted the boob or nothing so I'm hoping the Adiri Nurser will be my answer to this... : )
- 3 Adiri Natural Nurser Warmers (they don't come with the bottles and must be purchased separately)
- Moby Wrap baby carrier in Lilac (Must be Lilac, LOL : ))
- New tubing for my Medela Pump-In-Style breast pump (our former dog chewed through the tubing two years ago...)
- 5 packs of breast milk bags
- HE Baby detergent; I don't care what brand it is...
- A baby bath chair (not sure what the technical name is). I don't want to bend over the tub to bathe Little Man (not comfortable doing that with Eva running around) and I'd rather not bathe him in a big bowlin the kitchen sink like I did with Eva

So what do you consider to be essential? I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts and ideas -- maybe there's something I missed that I really will need...

Why in the world would you ever think you're "butting in"??? You're as much a member of the board -- ALWAYS -- as any of us here. Zsheeeeesh! I'm so glad to hear your suggestions -- just as I'm sure the others are, too! You'll have to let me know how the cloth diapering works for you. I used them for about a year with Eva and gave up on them after I learned that my "green" washing concoction didn't kill yeast and so she ended up with a yeast infection that lasted and lasted and lasted (I'm talking like months) despite my using prescription creams, etc.. Apparently CD's need to be "stripped" every so often with bleach because other cleansers/detergents (especially green ones) don't kill the yeast which continues to grow and grow in the diapers despite their frequent washing. This kind of bothered me because 1) I didn't want her wearing fabric washed in bleach so close to such a sensitive area and 2) bleach is absolutely horrendous for the environment (although I confess, I still us a small amount for our whites). Thanks so much for the link to the website -- I, too, have a HE washer so I'm excited to check out the website for stuff to wash baby's clothes in. Heck, I might even use it for the girls' stuff, too if it works as well as you say it does. : )
Oh, patience and a sense of humor! Am I ever glad you listed those!!! Thanks for reminding us how necessary they are!

How's it going? Are you getting into any kind of a routine with those two handsome babies of yours? When you have a chance, update us AND please post more pics! I'm so glad to hear from you. Please, stay as active on the board as you can -- we love to hear from you! : ))

Thanks so much for the link to CD'ng, etc.. I'll definitely check it out. I wouldn't worry too much about the boys not being on any kind of schedule yet. They're still so young. It'll happen eventually. There's noting wrong with day-by-day. And how awesome that your daughter is SUCH the proud, big sister. I'm so thrilled for you to hear that. And wow, great job BF both boys. So many Moms here will be absolutely thrilled to see your comment about all women becoming moms in their forties. There truly is something to be said about all that life experience benefiting us in our parenting skills. I firmly believe that had I been a young or even younger Mom, I would've been a good Mom, but not nearly as knowledgeable as I am today about things many of the seemingly "little" things (i.e., nutrition, patience, being environmentally conscientious, the importance of truthfulness at all times, etc,). Thanks so much for stating that for all of us.

I'm fine, just fat and feeling generally icky. I don't know why, but I always feel icky and disgusting when I'm pregnant. Mostly because of the weight I gain (I swear I can feel my skin stretching from gaining weight too quickly) but also because of all the other ailments. Individually I suppose none of them are all that bad (except for the incredible weight gain) but collectively, they take a toll on me. I still have three months to go and I'm SOOOO ready for it to be May. Sorry for the sob story -- thanks for asking. Best wishes to you, be well, and enjoy those babies of yours. And please, stick around. I've missed not seeing your posts but I completely understand why you haven't been as active on the board lately. : )

Joan, I've heard good things about the Moby wrap, too and I've saved your link to my favorites so I can check out the comparisons soon. Thanks for the tip!

I'm really excited to get it and try it. I hope it lives up to its expectations... My hubby is giving me a hard time about the color I want, though. He said I can't wear the baby in a lilac wrap since he's a boy; I told him I'm the one wearing the wrap, not the baby. So I'll wear my lilac wrap and he can wear blue and brown. What do you (and everyone else) think?
