Ethnicity was definitely considered when we did genetic screening (which we did with only our first child) as well as during genetic counseling that is required to take place prior to having an amnio or CVS performed (which we did with both subsequent pregnancies). BUT it was my age that prompted the screening and testing in the first place. Once we decided to screen and test, THEN they asked both my husband and me about our genetic background, including ethnicity. So I don't know if ethnicity would've been discussed had I been younger, and since I had our first child at the age of 36, I don't know if it's a standard discussion my OB has with his patients or not. My next OB appointment is this coming Tuesday, if I remember, I'll ask him about this. I'm curious to see what others' experience is...

Thanks for this reminder. My OBs have definitely raised my age as the main reason to consider genetic testing
