Is sushi ok?

Technically it's too late now, since I've already eaten sushi 2 or 3 times in the last month or so, but I'm just wondering: has anybody's doctor advised you not to eat sushi? My husband gets nervous seeing me do it, while my dad seems to think it's no real risk. Opinions anyone?

Thanks.

I think sushi is on the no fly list unless it has been cooked ie. egg, crab, eel, california roll. Raw fish no go. Lived in Japan off and on for 15 years and the ladies there eat it during pregnancy as long as they order off the cooked side of the menu. I am craving it too and it sucks. That and bleu cheese and a glass of white wine.

I'm pretty sure bleu cheese is OK, as long as it's made from pasteurized milk (which most if not all American cheeses are...if it's imported, you better check).

My doctors have told me that I CAN eat sushi but that I shouldn't go to a new place for it.

My Japanese friends tell me that Japanese women eat sushi all through the pregnancy, because you should only eat fresh clean sushi anyway, pregnant or not.

Any food borne illness will make you sick. Your choices are to trust the place you eat at, or not. And if there's any reason to NOT, then go with that, and stay away.

I ate cooked sushi during my pregnancy but erred on the side of caution and skipped the raw fish. I'm sure you're fine with the small amount you've had, though you might avoid it from here. Now I'm so ready for a spicy tuna roll (a double no-no)! I did eat goat cheese often, but it was all pasteurized, though I still avoided the brie-type cheeses.

When I was growing up, we would all eat the berries and veggies without washing them. My parents didn't own a farm - just had a large gardens in the backyard. I remember when the deck was almost full of ripe tomatoes. I do wish that I had some land to actually grow more veggies than a few potted tomato plants:(
