Managing a big family?

Can anybody give me some good links to sites/blogs/boards etc. where I can learn some tips for managing a larger family? This baby I'm expecting is number 4, and so far with 3 I've done OK but

I remember when I was expecting #4 - that was when the strange looks first started... Now, I am expecting #10 and I try my best to avoid telling anyone how many children I have or that I am expecting because I can't stand the strange looks and the rude comments.

Wow Donna, my hat's off to you, with ten kids! I certainly agree that having children who are relatively obedient is essential. Fortunately, for fear of being a "wimpy parent" and of having brats for children, I started in early with discipline. No spanking, but time-outs and a lot of close supervision, not letting them get away with stuff. Showing them that I mean what I say. In other words, if I tell

Sounds like you already have the battle half won if you have kids that will do what you ask them to.

Hi Donna, Yes I can certainly see how disciplining such a large bunch is a big challenge! And my DH does the exact same thing as yours: issues orders that often don't get followed, because he doesn't make the effort to enforce his orders! Anyway I'm wondering, are you able to handle your kids better because you have help from others such as aunts, uncles, grandparents? How can you even remember where all kids are at all times of day (now I'm thinking of the older ones)? OK, dumb question I know, but I'm just trying to picture a day-in-the-life of 12 people! Maybe it's easier on schooldays than on weekends? Just curious.

Hope you are feeling well!

Yep, I've been a member of the tons of kids boards for a while now, it's a good board and they have a lot of good ideas for managing large families. :)

I won't pretend that it's always easy - controlled chaos is considered the norm in our house.
