Congratulations on your pg! I'm Carol and I am 46 and pg w #7. I had my last 3 at ages 40, 42, and 45. I never did an amnio at all. The last 2 times I had a 1st trimester screening which is just a blood test and an ultrasound between 10 and 13 weeks. I always have a level II ultrasound at about 20 weeks. Although theses are screening tests, they are non-invasive. Many, many women have successful pregnancies in their 40's. Chances are things will be just fine!

Congratulations and welcome.

My first was due 1 month before my 40th birthday so I know exactly where you are coming from. I had the 1st trimester screen (Nuchal Translucency) around 12 weeks and the detailed ultrasound at 20 weeks. Everything looked good in both of those so I choose to leave it at that and do no invasive testing.

That was almost 3 years ago and here I go again. This baby is due 3 days after my 43rd birthday and I am doing the same again. Both screening came back great so I am just going with it again.

Try to relax, don't let yourself be pressured into doing anything you don't want to do and I hope you have a wonderful 9 months.

I had my last baby at 40, and this one is due a month before I turn 44.

I skip amniocentesis, I just don't find it necessary for me.

It's an option - not a requirement.

What an amazing birthday gift.

I'll be having a girl three weeks shy of my 43 birthday. Had my son at 36. With my first pregnancy I did no screenings or testing. With this one, just the 20 week ultrasound.

OB's are a good source of doom and gloom, it sounds like from what I've heard on the board. My midwives never batted an eye at my age. Thank goodness for that, it makes it easier.

Hope all is going well for you, and looking forward to an update!
