Anyone have any good comebacks for the rude comments people make about being pregnant after 40 ? I constantly hear..."better you than me", "Haven't you guys figured out what causes that?", "We'll be raising our Grandkids w you" , "You're starting all over again!"...then they do the math and say "You'll be 60 and have a 16 year old Yikes !" etc

I wish I had some good comebacks....

I say throw them a curve ball with a heart felt statement like "I know I am the luckiest person on earth have a baby" or "I know isn't it the most wonderful thing you can imagine" or (not heart felt but sarcastic) how about "Wow you ARE old enough for grand kids" and in response to "you'll be 60 when the baby is 16" how about "Oh I know I feel like such a rock star" or "hey maybe you can help with his math homework".

Best of luck to you and don't forget you can skip all these comments and tell 'em where to stick it!

My mother was 40 when she had me in 1966. My father was 44. That was pretty rare back in the day. Yes, when I was 15 my mother was 55 and my father was 59. I had a great childhood and 'survived' being the child of an older parent.

My favorite comeback? All of the Hollywood starlets are having kids in their 40s via IVF for $15 K a pop.

I don't know why that the public feels that your pregnancy/kids are open for discussion, comments, etc.

I'm so sorry you've been getting rude comments! I just turned 42 and we're due with our first in less than a month, and I've gotten nothing but nice ones. Maybe it's a matter of geography, 40+ ladies having babies seem quite common here in the SF Bay Area. It's common with my friends and family.

If a comeback is needed, I like the comebacks along the lines of "We're thrilled!".

And we're thrilled for you...enjoy your pregnancy!!!

I'm almost 44 and pregnant with #6. I get the nicest compliments. Occasionally people say "better you than me". And I laugh.

I always follow up with how delighted we are.
