33+ weeks and DONE

I've got heartburn, dizziness, restlessness and am just generally miserable. It is my third, first after 40, and doc has given me all sorts of meds but they just don't help and I'm pacing and restless all night every night. When I start to fall asleep I feel acid coming up my throat, or dizzy lying down. I try different positions but it isn't easy to sleep when you feel dizzy> 6 more weeks...ugh, any suggestions welcomed!

dumb question: have you tried Tums? they work really well for me. I know with six weeks to go, there is so little you can do to help yourself feel better. I had major HB with DS and now PG with twins, started getting HB at 13 weeks (it was more like 22 weeks with my first). You don't want to OD on the tums, but you might want to just take the full dose once a day

Thanks for the suggestions. I passed Tums ages ago. They left a bad taste in my mouth when I was still kinda queasy. The doc has had me on pepcid and a newer OTC, plus reglan which helps move the food through faster so it can't back up. Some days it helps and some days it really doesn't. I think the only solution is delivery! I did have one of those pillows with my second. The problem isn't so much getting comfortable but the dizziness, restlessness (hormonal) and acid in my throat. When I see the OB this week I'll see if she has any advice. She already told me Ive tried everything for heartburn so I have to just live with it:( The good part is my DD was 3 weeks early on her own and totally fine so we're hoping her brother will start copying her already!

I hear you -- three weeks seems manageable, six...well, wow. You poor thing. I wish I could make you feel better...but your doc is likely right -- you just have to have this little girl and then all will be right wth the world. I am starting to think that HB, aches and restlessness are much worse with PGs beyond the first. I already have a lot of the symptoms you describe and I am only 17weeks...so I will be coming

Do you have a good chair or some good pillows so that you could try sleeping upright?

I wake up choking on reflux. Doc put me on Zantac, that and sleeping propped up helps, though it still happens sometimes. Try propping up a bunch of pillows and sleeping at an angle, I find that plus the snoogle pillow by Leacho allow me to sleep propped up somewhat and on my side. The steeper the angle the less likely the reflux.

Thank you both Melissa and Jenna. The dizziness is sitting, standing, lying down...I am so eager for my appt on Thurs cause this isn't safe or pleasant. I know we are not supposed to be on our backs but that seems to be the least dizzy-inducing. I am a terrible sleeper anyhow and can only fall asleep on my right side. On my left I tend to feel the reflux more. It sure is scary waking up choking, huh? Don't recall that with my first two. My scan today showed little man is 4.5 lbs which is on target but too little to be born soon:( Thanks again for the advice and support. I really appreciate it:)

Yes the waking up choking is scary, not to mention very unpleasant. I was worried about taking medication so asked my OB is there was any real danger besides the discomfort and she said it is possible to asphyxiate, or get aspiration pneumonia. That convinced me to take the Zantac! Hopefully your doc will have some tips or solutions for the dizziness. I had bad dizziness and vertigo (room spinning) earlier this pg associated with lying on my left side and certain movements, such as getting out of bed or tilting my head back or bending over... it was benign positional vertigo and was totally cured by just one session with a physical therapist who did the Epley maneuver! May not be what you have but definately mention the specifics of your symptoms, especially if the dizziness includes the room spinning and is related to certain positions and movements, rather than just general wooziness.

Jenna, I was wondering if one of the other meds would work better for her, like Prilosec or Prevacid?

I am just checking back in after 2 days in the hospital. I was so dizzy that when I got to L and D I had a BP of 60/30! They kept me and ran every test, one doc says I have a UTI the other said no, waiting on test results. Since they couldn't find a reason, they said it was stress and I can't drive til the baby is born. At this point I'm worried I'd have to have a section because I am too weak and dizzy for labor:(
