Hi,

I had a marker on the amnio. A marker is an extra small piece of a chromosome (it's called supernumerary marker chromosome, or SMC). Whether it has an effect on the baby depends on what chromosome it is, what piece (i.e., which genes it contains) and whether all cells have it or just a portion of the cells (mosaic). They should be able to figure out all three from the amnio sample, but it will probably take some time. You may need to be pushy to get more info.

If either you or your dh have the marker, it's ok, bc you both are obviously ok. If you do not, then it's called a 'de novo' marker, and the prognosis is trickier.

BTW, did you do FISH for trisomies 13, 18 and 21 (the most common ones)?

I don't know anything about it but want to offer hugs and encouragement!
