Gestational diabetes is a risk factor for developing diabetes at a later date, but just a risk factor. It is more common in women with family history of type II diabetes but also happens in women without any family history. It just so happens that during pregnancy the general hormonal environment will predispose you to developing insulin resistancy, and tight control of blood sugar is necessary to avoid, for instance, having large babies (you don't want a 10-pounder, I am sure). Like most people said in the threads, most milder cases of GD are managed with diet and exercise, you just won't be able to gorge on twinkies like yours truly did during her first pregnancy :). At least, this is one thing about your pregnancy where you can have some control on the outcomes! So chin up
I had the same thing happen to me with the one hour and well Had to do the 3 hr. Unfortunately I didn't pass that either. But they didnt put me on insulin. It was regulated by a strict diet and testing your blood sugar a few times a day. It doesnt hurt really, cause I am the biggest Baby you know and I did fine... And well Girl now that my daughter is out my gestational diabetes is gone :) So hang in there. Its not a bad thing. Just follow what they say. It will all be fine.. Hopefully the 3 hr will turn out great.. Fingers are crossed..

Hey Rachelle - sorry to hear you're bordering on developing GD.
