How did your baby's femur length compare to the rest of the body?

Hi,

Odds are your baby is healthy. Is 2 weeks behind in size really that strong an indicator of downs??? Wouldn't 2 weeks be only about a pound behind? Did your doc really make it sound that dire? I would try not to worry too much...easier said than done I know!

Hi Cindy,

Did the doc give you an official diagnosis of IUGR (intra-uterine growth restriction)?

I just got back about 30 minutes ago from my parent's house. While there, a long time friend of theirs was telling me about her niece that had a baby a few years ago. For whatever reason (didn't get the details), she was going to a high risk OB who told her that based on his u/s findings, she should terminate the pregnancy because the baby appeared to have Down's, as well as a multitude of other problems.

They chose to not terminate. A few months later, she delivered the baby and he turned out to be a perfectly "normal", healthy baby boy.

The moral of the story is that even "high risk OB's" don't have crystal balls.

Try to relax and enjoy the rest of the pregnancy. 1:700 are pretty good odds. Keep telling yourself that and maybe that will provide you with a little reassurance.
