(I x-posted this to the March 2010 board)
DH and I went in yesterday for my CVS test -- we had genetic counseling just like we did for the amnio with DS and then we got an ultrasound. It was soooooo cool to see the baby!!! I hadn't had an u/s yet so I just choked up!! It was really real!! The baby was moving around and we even saw a leg sticking out.
The doctor came in to do the actual test and he decided, per the placement of the placenta which was posterior, to do it vaginally through the cervix. It felt just like a pap smear and only took a minute. I had no spotting at all afterwards and just a few cramplike pains during the day. I was told to take it easy and rest, drink plenty of fluids, which I did.
Today we got the FISH results back. The markers were all good for the trisomy disorders so that was fantastic to hear. We will get full results in about 10 days but these won't change.
And we also got to know the sex. We are having....
...A BOY!!!! Another little boy to join his big brother Gus!!! We're joining the Blue Team!
DH and I are ecstatic and relieved beyond belief. I'm so glad I did this. Being 45 and having a 1/20 chance of a chromosonal disorder starts making one crazy. So barring any other situation with chromosones, we should be able to do a blood test later for spina bifida.
So excited -- just wanted to share!
