The Longest Thirty Seconds

So I had my second OB appointment today. Weight has gone up by 7 pounds in the last 11 1/2 weeks (!!). They didn't say anything to me but I told myself no more 'I deserve dessert tonight' every night. Blood pressure 112/80 - check. Urine sample clean; no problems with protein or sugar - check. Blood drawn for blood type, cholesterol, manadatory STD tests - check. The big moment arrives when the OB comes in with her doppler. I lay down on the table and she squirts the u/s gel on my stomach. And she searches. And searches. And frowns. And I'm thinking - OH NUTS!! THIS ISN'T HAPPENING TO ME!! She moves all around my stomach. And nothing. It seems like it is forever although I know it is only probably 15 seconds or so. So then she pulls my pants down farther and says 'Where is your pelvic bone?' I remember my ears starting to buzz a little as I'm starting to go into emotional panic mode. She digs on into the pelvic bone area and then starts to fan the doppler wand out little by little. Another fifteen seconds go by. I start thinking how I am going to break the bad news to my DH. And then she finds the best sound in the world. After the longest thirty seconds. We still have a HB - 161 bpm.

Whew! Next appointment September 16th 10:00 AM

WHEW!!! But honestly, your OB should try to control herself. They can't always find it right away in the first place they look and she should be a little more relaxed on the hunt for it. The first time my doc tried with my first PG, nothing. It was 6 weeks and he said not unusual.

Hi Renee

I know the feeling, my little girls seems to like hiding everytime I go to the OB doctor, it always takes her ages to find that heartbeat!
