I think you are supposed to have a cyst... the ovary that you Ovulate from releases the egg and keeps a cyst which becomes the corpus luteum which produces the progesterone and everything until the placenta takes over at 12weeks. In my first two pgs, (ds and m/c) my cyst hurt all the time! I went for rule out ectopic u/s both times because it would hurt so bad! In both of those pgs my progesterone level was perfect. With this pg, my progesterone was only 7.9 and my cp cyst NEVER hurt... my doc said the low progesterone was likely b/c my cp cyst was not working properly, which must be true b/c I am still here at 20wks! So I consider that pain to be a good sign that everything is working!!!
katie that is so awsome! i am absolutley thrilled for you. i'm glad everything went so well.i was told with my second dd that i had cysts also. but like you i was told that they were nothing to cause concern and they would probably just go away within a few months. i can't recall ever having pain with them though. but i can tell you at first with this pregnancy i was worried about ectopic because of pain on my right side. it came and went though. but i was assured by women on this very board and i remembered being told (by my dr.) that it was just ligaments pulling . setting themselves to be able to hold my growing uterus. so because you had a good u/s already and you know that its not ectopic i'm sure thats what it is.
That's great! I'm so happy that all went well & thanks so much for the update. Isn't that little beating heart the most beautiful sight in the entire world? I just love it. I had a cyst on my left side early on & it was causing me quite a bit of pain early on too. I'm not sure when the pain stopped-but my doc assured me that it's completely normal & he says he thinks it's a good sign because it means... (sorry-I forgot what it meant-but that something was working correctly that helps a pg in the early weeks.)
I'm sure you'll have a few more freaked out moments in the months to come & don't worry about asking us anything. We've all had our stressful moments-but I think it helps to know that we're not alone.
I'm so happy you got good results! I had early spotting too, and I still remember how freaked out it made me. Sending you lots of sticky pink baby vibes, since that's what I have to offer! :)
I had a cyst also and apparently they're so common they have a name but don't ask me what it is- they actually produce nutrients in some way (hormones I believe) that helps a pregnancy along until the placenta further develops and then they shrink (usually).
It's a CL cyst that makes the progesterone for the baby until the placenta is large enough to take over, usually at around 10-12 weeks. It could cause pain, I know mine always do. I'm so glad to hear that things are well, and the cyst is a very good sign because if your pg was failing, it probably wouldn't be visible or be there at all.
