1st OB appt - and ???

I had my 1st OB appointment at 10.4 weeks on Jan. 14 (then went away for a week), so I am now 11.5 weeks. My Dr did an u/s and said all looks well - altho' his machine is just a little u/s probe attached to a small computer screen, and does not have all the measuring capabilites of the big u/s offices. He saw the h/b and the baby was jumping around like a little footy player. So all is well. But my question:

Without actually measuring the baby, the Dr said it looks maybe 9 weeks rather than 10. I KNOW that this is not the case. Then he said maybe it's b/c the uterus is tipped backwards, which is not uncommon in women who've had a many babies as me (6 healthy pg's and 2 m/c's). Does this sound true to anyone? Could a uterus that is tilted backwards make the baby look smaller on the screen?

I am not actually worried - I have a home doppler and the h/b is as healthy as can be. I'm really just curious and looking for info.

Thank you

Grace-

I personally haven't had that situation, but I think doctors can misconstrue

Grace-

I've always heard that a tilted uterus can make it harder to see everything on the u/s.

Grace,

I've been wondering the same exact thing. I have a titled uterus (from birth) and have recently heard that it might affect dating. I was wondering because during my last visit my dr did an u/s and had me dated for 4 weeks, when DH and I knew it couldn't be any less than 6. I was wondering if a titled uterus could explain this discrepency. Only thing is, my dr uses a trans-vaginal u/s, not the tummy type. Does it matter what kind they use? Anyway, let me know if you hear anymore about it. I'd be curios to know. Thanks for posting the discussion.

Good luck to you and your bean.

Hello again,

Well, decided to check the net for more info, found two good sights (below) for Q&A. Hope reading them helps answer your questions too. BTW sounds like transvaginal u/s is best. I'm lucky that my dr uses this kind regularly. And from experience it is painless and easy.
