when I found out I was pregnant I started eating healthy and following the food groups for pregnant women -but wow I packed on the weight! I don't have a scale but my belly and hips and butt grew so much that none of my pants fit already and I'm only 6wks. I'm overweight to begin with so I am very worried. Anyone else have this problem even though they are eating healty foods?

Hi there,

Yes!!! I've thought about posting the exact same discussion. I'm an average weight pescaterian (eat only fish and veggies) who doesn't like sweets. I've always had a hearty apitite and usually eat more than my hubbie. But, by six weeks I had to "put away" most of my pants.

I keep asking my DH if he thinks I'm "showing too soon", but we have no real idea. In fact, we don't have a scale in our house either, so one night we went out to the local electronics store to weigh me. Well, even though my clothes don't fit, I seem to still be in the general weight gain category. Could this be true for you as well? We're thinking it must be gas (all those veggies) and constipation (blush), in addition to this being our second pg. We didn't make it past 9wks last time, but they say you can "show" earlier in subsequent pgs. Also we've wonderd about multiples. Faternal twins run in my family big time (skips a generation with the women), but I just had my 7plus week u/s and dr didn't seem to indicate anything unusual. So..., just bloated ole' me I guess.

Have you had to buy new clothes? Well, you wouldn't be alone. I couldn't hold out any longer. Hope it helps to know there others out there too.

Hi, I am having the same problem with my pants, I usually eat very little (2 times a day max), so when I found out I was pregnant I started eating 3 to 5 times a day, lots of milk and protein so I have gained weight. The worst part is that in my country this is the beach season, and I am embarrassed to put on my bikini :(

I have not bought any clothes yet but I am going to have to buy some soon, because I only have like 3 pants that fit me!! I am doing lots of exercise hoping that I can stop the weight gain or at least control it.

This weight gain is veeeeeeery hard for me to accept, since I had an eating disorder a few years ago and I have been fighting to control it over the years.

Just try to think of it as doing it for the babies health and tell yourself when the baby is here you can take it off then. I'm sure you look beautiful pregnant!!

Hi Maria and Sassysoo,

Went to the gym yesterday and came across a song that really lifted my spirits. The name of the song is "Video" by the artist India Arie. Maria, I also had body imaging problems in the past and am always on the look out for postive images to internalize. Perhaps, like me, this song will encourage both of you to embrace the healthy and necessary bodily changes that will make us BEAUTIFUL pregnant women!!!

BTW: Aren't women's bodies truly amazing??? I mean, if I had to conciously tell my body what to do in order to make all the necessary adjustments required for a healthy pg, I'd be at a loss for words. Yet, despite my ignorance my body knows exactly what to do. What a gift!

Quotes from the song...

I'm not the average girl from your video.
And I aint built like a supermodel,
but I've learned to love myself unconditionally
Because I am a queen.

I'm not the average girl from your video.
My worth is not determined by the price of my clothes
No matter what I'm wearing I will always be
India Arie.

When I look in the mirror and the only one there is me
Every freckel on my face is where it is suppose to be
And I know my creator didn't make no mistakes on me
My feet, my thighs, my lips, my eyes,
I'm loving what I see!!!

(I like to sing..
my feet, my thighs, my belly, my eyes)

Hi Sassysoo,

I had to put in my 2 cents bc/ I have been a FREAK about my weight gain this entire pregnancy. I have always been in pretty decent shape and eat pretty healthy (I'm also a vegetarian btw).
